Vergennes Police Log: City busy with a variety of issues

VERGENNES — Vergennes police dealt with a variety of issues between May 23 and 29, including verbal domestic disputes, reports of stolen prescription drugs, credit card fraud, traffic incidents and accidents, drunken driving and more.

In those seven days, city police also performed a number of grant-funded Click It or Ticket patrols in and outside Vergennes, and:

• On May 23 handled a fender-bender in a Panton Road parking lot.

• On May 23 began investigating the reported theft of prescription drugs from a High Street residence.

• On May 23 responded to a Main Street barking dog complaint and concluded it was unfounded.

• On May 23 issued a commercial truck driver a violation notice while doing a Click It or Ticket patrol in New Haven.

• On May 23 checked a report of a disturbance at a Main Street apartment and calmed a couple who were arguing, but not physically fighting.

• On May 23 ticketed the owners of three vehicles for parking after dark in a town park along Macdonough Drive.

• On May 24 checked a report of a suspicious car at the Victory Baptist Church in Waltham and ticketed a juvenile for driving with a civilly suspended license and possession of marijuana.

• On May 24 helped the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad by checking a Lifeline activation at Monkton Road residence.

• Helped a motorist get into a locked car on Monkton Road on May 24.

• On May 24 helped Vermont State Police at a domestic dispute on Long Point Road in Ferrisburgh.

• On May 25 checked out an apartment on North Green Street because its tenant was worried his ex-girlfriend might have let herself in and stolen items, but found no problem.

• On May 25 determined a deceased person at a White Street apartment had not been the victim of foul play.

• On May 26 began investigating a complaint that a former employee of a Main Street business was fraudulently using a company credit card.

• On May 26 looked into a complaint of a youth riding a golf cart on Thomas Circle, but found nothing.

• On May 27 responded to Route 7 in Ferrisburgh, where a man was reportedly kicking at cars and making obscene gestures at drivers. Police referred the case to the Addison County Sheriff’s Department, but drove the man to Porter Hospital to meet with the Counseling Service of Addison County.

• After receiving a May 27 alert from state police, arrested on their behalf Steven Pellerin, 51, of New Haven at a traffic stop and turned him over to the sheriff’s department in Middlebury.

• On May 27 directed traffic around a disabled tractor-trailer truck on Main Street.

• On May 27 at a Panton Road sobriety checkpoint cited Christian Kruse, 31, of Vergennes for driving under the influence of alcohol. Police allege his blood-alcohol content tested at 0.10; the legal limit for driving is 0.08.

• On May 28 helped a motorist get into a locked car on Main Street.

• On May 28 returned a wallet found by a citizen to its owner.

• On May 29 began investigating a reported assault at the City Limits bar; police were told a woman hit a man repeatedly in the face.

• On May 29 ticketed a passenger for marijuana possession after stopping a vehicle in Ferrisburgh, an action taken after being alerted the car was being driven erratically.

• On May 29 calmed a woman who was upset and yelling in a car parked at Champlain Farms on Main Street.

• On May 29 attempted to check the welfare of a man reported possibly to be suicidal, but could not find him at his Green Street apartment.

• On May 29 backed up state police at a Route 7 traffic stop; police said the car pulled over had been clocked at 98 mph.

• On May 29 were told that prescription drugs had been stolen from a Main Street residence.

• On May 29 backed up state police at a drunken driving arrest at an accident on South Middlebrook Road in Ferrisburgh.
