VERMONT — Vermont State Police are looking for the public’s help in finding an unsafe driver who eluded capture in Shoreham late last week.

At around 8:36 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3, state police attempted to stop an older, green Subaru Legacy sedan in Shoreham after observing multiple traffic violations. The vehicle fled the trooper after the officer signaled the vehicle to stop by turning on the cruiser’s blue lights and siren. The trooper reported that the car was being driven with gross negligence and at excessive speed.

The vehicle led state police on a pursuit along Route 74, Route 22A, Richville Road and Shoreham Depot Road.

The officer terminated pursuit after the vehicle traveled across a farm road. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Vermont State Police at 802-388-4919. Information can also be submitted anonymously online at www.vtips.infoor by texting “CRIMES” (274637) to Keyword: VTIPS.

In other recent activity, state police:

•  On Sept. 2 at 11:43 p.m. responded to a one-car crash on Bristol Road north of Mountain Road in Monkton. Police said Tanya Lawrence, 33, of Rutland was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu southbound on Bristol Road when she lost control of the vehicle, which rolled over onto its roof causing substantial damage to the entire vehicle. Lawrence and all the passengers were transported to UVM Medical Center to receive treatment for their injuries. The car was considered a total loss.

•  On Sept. 4 at approximately 6:25 p.m. received a call regarding a citizen dispute on Chickadee Lane in Starksboro. State police spoke with several people, including a 27-year-old Starksboro resident, who told police that Melissa Preston, 37, of Starksboro attempted to assault her and put her in fear of being injured. Troopers gathered statements from witnesses at the scene that backed up the 27-year-old’s story. Police cited Preston for simple assault.

•  On Sept. 6 at approximately 2:24 a.m. went to check out the report that two motorcycles were in a crash on Route 22A in Benson, near the intersection of East Road. Troopers identified the two male operators of the motorcycles involved as Scott Bixby, 42, of Benson and Jamie Corey, 35, of Caribou, Maine. State police investigated and determined that Bixby and Corey had been riding their two motorcycles together. Both men sustained injuries from the crash, and were taken to Rutland Regional Medical Center for further aid.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Vermont State Police in Rutland at 802-773-9101. Information can also be submitted anonymously online.

•  On Sept. 6 at 11 a.m. responded to a motor vehicle complaint on the Bristol-Monkton Road in Monkton. Police said that their investigation showed that driver Donald H. Angwin, 46, of South Burlington was under the influence of alcohol. Police cited Angwin for driving under the influence test refusal.

•  On Sept. 7 began investigating another incident in which a bicyclist was struck and killed by a car on a Vermont road. On Monday at approximately 3:38 p.m. troopers from the Rutland Barracks responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a bicycle in Pawlet.

Troopers said their investigation showed that 21-year-old Kathleen E. King of Wells fell asleep behind the wheel of the Subaru Outback she was driving on Route 30, causing her to drive into the wrong lane and strike 54-year-old Robert A. Agne of Granville, N.Y., who was riding his bicycle.

Agne, a doctor of veterinary medicine, was pronounced dead at the scene.

King was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center.

Vermont State Police is urging drivers to be cautious when traveling near bicycles.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Vermont State Police at the Rutland barracks at 802-773-9101.  Information can also be submitted anonymously online.

Earlier this year there was a series of three incidents in which cars struck and killed bicyclists — one in Weybridge in April, a second in May in Hinesburg, and a third in Ferrisburgh in June.
