VERGENNES — Vergennes police issued two citations for driving under the influence of alcohol this past weekend.

On Saturday night, they stopped a vehicle driven by Joshua Barrett, 22, of Brandon near the intersection of Routes 7 and 22A. Police said they saw the vehicle weaving from side to side on the road. They cited Barrett for DUI and alleged his evidentiary blood-alcohol content test recorded 0.149 percent, almost twice the legal limit of 0.08.

On Sunday, they stopped a vehicle driven on Victory Street by Aaron Meyers, 32, of Ferrisburgh. Police said his roadside BAC tested over the legal limit, but that his evidentiary test came in at under the 0.08 limit, although only after a delay due to an equipment problem.

On Friday, police also looked for a drunk driver reported to be on Route 7 near Vergennes, but could not find him.

In other action between Jan. 12 and 18, Vergennes police:

•  On Jan. 12 picked up a dog running loose near Northlands Job Corps and took it to the Vergennes Animal Hospital. Police said it belonged to a Northlands employee who picked it up later.

•  On Jan. 12 took a report that prescription meds had been lost in last week’s White Street apartment building fire.

•  On Jan. 12 took a complaint that a car had illegally passed a school bus on Monkton Road; police said they expected to issue a ticket.

•  On Jan. 12 contacted the owner of a car that had been left on a Green Street property and told him the property owner wanted it moved.

•  On Jan. 12 handled a minor two-car accident on Main Street.

•  On Jan. 12 went along with Vermont State Police to help a man on Battery Hill with a gun threatening suicide; police calmed him and he surrendered the weapon and was seen by Porter Hospital and Counseling Service of Addison County personnel at the hospital.

•  On Jan. 13 gave an elderly, confused man walking in the road a ride home.

•  On Jan. 13 helped a motorist get into a locked car at the Small City Market.

•  On Jan. 13 helped VSP look for a missing teen along Route 7 in Ferrisburgh.

•  On Jan. 14 helped Colchester police by looking for a city man who had been involved in an accident in that town; police did not find him at home.

•  On Jan. 14 dealt with a complaint of construction vehicles blocking a Main Street alley.

•  On Jan. 14 searched unsuccessfully for someone who targeted the interior of a city cruiser with a laser pointer.

•  On Jan. 15 ticketed a car left overnight on South Water Street in violation of the city’s wintertime parking ban.

•  On Jan. 15 ticketed a tractor-trailer truck driver for having consumed alcohol while driving and possessing alcohol, and took the truck out of service for 24 hours because it lacked a duty log. The actions followed a stop on Panton Road for an obstructed license plate. Police said the driver was not legally drunk.

•  On Jan. 15 issued a no-trespass order to juveniles knocking on a School Street door claiming to be looking for another juvenile who owed them money.

•  On Jan. 15 took a report that change had been stolen from a car parked on North Maple Street. Police also reported an attempted car break-in on that street on Jan. 18 in which a window frame was damaged.

•  On Jan. 15 helped VSP and Ferrisburgh firefighters at a one-car roll-over on Route 7.

•  On Jan. 16 cited Walter Olander, 42, of Bethel for possession of marijuana after a Main Street traffic stop.

•  On Jan. 16 began investigating break-ins at two Panton Road storage units; on Monday police were waiting for owners to report what was taken after locks to the units were cut.

•  On Jan. 16 backed up Bristol police at a motor vehicle stop at which city police said an arrest was made on an outstanding warrant.

•  On Jan. 17 helped VSP at a one-car accident on Bristol Road in Monkton.

•  On Jan. 18 warned a man not to be late to deliver his child to his mother while dealing with a Main Street custody dispute.
