The Addison Independent is proud to publish the Students of the Week from area High Schools each week. The students are chosen by teachers and administration from each school who would like to recognize their exceptional engagement in the high schools they attend.

MUHS STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Middlebury Union High School is pleased to recognize Krisandra Provencher as its Student of the Week. Krisandra resides part-time in Ferrisburgh with her mother, Melissa Moore, and part-time in Weybridge with her father, Larry Provencher. Krisandra’s brother, Tyler, attends Green Mountain College.

Krisandra has been on Honor Roll throughout high school. She took AP Statistics last year and is currently taking AP Calculus. She received the American Legion Department Award for social studies as a freshman.

While obviously a good student, Krisandra shines most as a leader and an involved citizen. She attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Conference in 2013 and Green Mountain Girls’ State last spring. She is also a Peer Leader at MUHS. A member of the varsity basketball and softball teams for three years, Krisandra is captain of both squads this year.

Krisandra has been active in community service with Middlebury Rotary and United Way through her parents and grandparents, and last summer she spent two weeks on a service trip to Costa Rica with Global Leadership Adventures.

Krisandra will be attending Elon University in North Carolina next year and will be returning to Costa Rica to live and study as part of Elon’s Gap Semester Program. The program also includes two weeks at the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) in Wyoming and a month of service work in the Eastern U.S.

Krisandra has mowed lawns for the past six years, and she worked as both a nanny and a waitress this past year. With what spare time her schedule allows, Krisandra enjoys reading and spending time with family, friends and dogs.

Nothing is more important than family and friends,” says Krisandra. And she believes that great opportunities and adventures are earned through hard work and by helping others — a formula that certainly seems to be working for her! Next to earn on Krisandra’s list: a sky dive and a visit to Australia.

Congratulations and best wishes, Krisandra. We’ll look forward to a postcard from Perth or anywhere else “down under!”

 VUHS STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Vergennes Union High School is proud to recognize Tia Hunt as its Student of the Week. Tia lives in Addison with her parents, Rob and Suzy Hunt. Her brothers John, 26, and Asa (a senior at UVM), 21, also attended VUHS and her sister, Marlie, is currently a seventh-grader at VUMS.

Tia has achieved high honors and honors since middle school. She was elected to National Honor Society in her junior year and has received many awards for her leadership, school involvement and academic skill.

On and off the field, Tia is known as a leader and highly respected by her peers and the faculty and staff. Tia played varsity soccer all four years and served this year as captain. A member of Student Council, Math Team, Gay Straight Alliance, and a tutor/mentor for younger students, Tia has exhibited al of the qualities of the VUHS Five Guidelines. Tia is not only on time and present, but she exhibits kindness, self-challenge, respect and personal integrity. She has been a member of the VUHS Symphonic Band and Pep Band since ninth grade and has represented VUHS at Green Mountain Girls State and Athletic Leadership Conferences.

When asked to share her view on high school Tia remarked, “Don’t waste time trying to be someone you aren’t. Stay true to yourself regardless of what the people around you are doing or what the ‘norm’ seems to be.”

About Tia’s leadership and school involvement, VUHS Science Chair Sara Thompson said, “Tia is an amazing person and student. She is incredibly interested in all topics and goes above and beyond to make sure she really understands concepts and ideas. She has done so much for the VUHS community, ensuring that it is a safer place for every student.”

When not helping out on the family farm or working at Basin Harbor, Tia loves spending time with her family and friends.

Following graduation, Tia plans to attend college and major in physical therapy. The faculty, staff and students of VUHS wish Tia all the best in the future.
