Cornwall church decks the halls this Sunday

<p> CORNWALL &mdash; The spirit of the season will come to Cornwall this Sunday, Nov. 30, when the Cornwall Congregational Church hosts a special 3 p.m. Advent celebration.</p><p> Attendees will be welcome to deck the church with a traditional &ldquo;Hanging of the Greens,&rdquo; the ceremony that readies the sanctuary for Advent, the four weeks before Christmas when Christians are called to prepare themselves spiritually for the coming of Jesus.</p><p> Charles Callahan, the Cornwall Church organist and choir director, will present a recital of organ music. Renowned soprano Anneliese von Goerken had be scheduled to sing at this event, but, unfortunately had to withdraw because of health issues in her family.</p><p> People of all faiths &mdash; or none at all &mdash; are welcome at this event. The Rev. Dr. Mary Kay Schueneman, pastor of the Cornwall Church, will weave historical background about Advent traditions into the program, and there will be a special free-will offering taken for the Warming Shelter at the Charter House in Middlebury.</p><p> The Cornwall Congregational Church is in the Cornwall town center near the intersection of Routes 30 and 74.</p><p> For more information, call 802-462-3138.</p>
