MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police began investigating embezzlement allegations filed by Paquette Storage on Route 7 North on Dec. 7. Police said the embezzlement allegedly occurred between May of 2008 and May of 2011.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

  Received a report that $72 had been stolen from a student’s backpack at Middlebury College’s McCullough Hall on Dec. 5.

  Were informed of the theft of some items from a pocketbook in an unlocked vehicle parked in the Frog Hollow Alley area on Dec. 5.

  Connected a suicidal man with a counselor at Porter Hospital on Dec. 6.

  Responded, with ambulance officials, to a vehicle rollover on College Street near St. Mary’s Church on Dec. 6.

  Received into evidence some hypodermic needles and crack pipes that had allegedly been found in a Jackson Lane apartment on Dec. 6.

  Were informed that someone had tried to break into the Memorial Sports Center storage shed off Buttolph Drive on Dec. 7.

  Responded to a report of a family fighting inside a vehicle in the McDonald’s Restaurant parking lot off Route 7 South on Dec. 7.

  Had numerous vehicles towed and impounded for failing to comply with the winter parking ban on Dec. 8.

In Middlebury, the winter rules are in effect Nov. 1 to April 1, and they prohibit parking on town streets and in municipal parking lots between midnight and 6 a.m., regardless of snow conditions. Vehicles parked in violation of the ban will be ticketed and may be towed at the owner’s expense. All-night parking is allowed in the lower municipal lot on Bakery Lane in the row of parking spaces against the embankment and wherever signs post notice allowing all-night parking.

  Received a report that a boy’s sneakers were stolen from the Middlebury Union High School boy’s locker room on Dec. 8.

  Received into evidence a local business’s computer that allegedly bore evidence of child pornography on Dec. 8.

  Responded to a report of a car-deer accident, with no injuries, on Washington Street Extension on Dec. 8.

  Advised an amorous couple to relocate from the Trail Around Middlebury entrance off Route 7 South on Dec. 10.

  Ticketed a youth for being a minor in possession of alcohol on Washington Street on Dec. 10. Police said the young woman was carrying a cup of beer. Police measured her blood-alcohol content at 0.177 percent. As a point of reference, the legal limit for driving is 0.08 percent.

  Quieted a loud party at a Washington Street residence on Dec. 10.

  Cited Brian T. Hanson, 33, of Forest Dale for driving under the influence following a stop for a traffic violation on Cross Street on Dec. 10. Police said they measured Hanson’s blood-alcohol level at 0.119 percent.

  Ticketed 13 vehicles for violating the winter parking ban in downtown Middlebury on Dec. 10.

  Assisted a local man who reported receiving harassing phone calls on Dec. 10.

  Cited Kevin Desjardin, 26, of Middlebury for possession of marijuana following an incident in the Jackson Lane neighborhood on Dec. 10.

  Were informed of the theft of a laptop from a bag in Middlebury College’s Ross Dining Hall on Dec. 10.

  Ticketed a Middlebury College student for using a fake identification card at Hannaford Supermarket on Route 7 South on Dec. 10.

  Assisted a local woman who reported receiving harassing text messages on Dec. 10.

  Cited Corey Nulty, 29, of St. George for driving with a suspended license on Court Street on Dec. 10.

  Encountered a man toting an American flag and shouting while walking down Main Street on Dec. 11. Police said the man had borrowed the flag from the Middlebury Inn and said he intended to return it soon.
