FERRISBURGH — Ferrisburgh selectmen and former town fire chief Bob Jenkins, still an active officer of the Ferrisburgh Volunteer Fire Department, recently decided to step down from the selectboard.

Jenkins’ letter of resignation simply cites “personal reasons.” On Thursday, he said he enjoyed many aspects of his service on the board, but preferred to devote his time and energy to the fire department.

“I can get back to my firefighting, and that’s my life, anyway,” Jenkins said.

The $5.8 million, 25,000-square-foot building next to American Legion Post 14 and the Shaw’s Supermarket plaza will include a library and meeting and dining rooms. It will also host local senior lunches and provide a home for the area’s Meals on Wheels program.

Whether you are an individual whose property has sustained damage that impedes your ability to get to work, or a company that has seen a downturn in business due to flood-related damages, you may be eligible for aid from the state — but you won’t know if you don’t apply.

Travis Kilburn, 19, was fishing at the Ferrisburgh Slang at about noon that day when a boy he estimated at about 6 or 7 years old slipped off a rock at the edge of a cement platform and fell into water roughly 11 feet deep next to the bridge there.

Kilburn, who has been fishing regularly for the past 10 years, reacted quickly.
