Dining cards available to benefit animal shelter

MIDDLEBURY — Homeward Bound, Addison County’s Humane Society, is hoping the community is hungry this holiday season! The shelter is relying on sales of their 2017 Dining Cards to raise significant funds to support their mission to safeguard, rescue, shelter, heal, adopt and advocate for animals in need.

Porter staff participates in disaster training

MIDDLEBURY — During the week of Nov. 14, healthcare professionals from across Vermont, including 12 staff members from Porter Medical Center, will be traveling to a national emergency preparedness training facility in Anniston, Ala. under a federally-funded program to train at the “Center for Domestic Preparedness” (CDP).

Snowy roads contribute to multiple crashes

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police on Monday morning dealt with numerous motor vehicle crashes attributed to the snowy and slippery road conditions.

Troopers were assisted in various incidents by the Addison County Sheriff’s Department, Town Line First Response, the Addison Volunteer Fire Department  and the Ferrisburgh Volunteer Fire Department.

John Kellner named a new England 'Super Lawyer'

BURLINGTON / MIDDLEBURY — John L. Kellner of Langrock Sperry & Wool LLP has been named, along with five other Langrock attorneys, to the New England “Super Lawyers” list, among the top attorneys in Vermont for 2016. 

No more than 5 percent of the lawyers in the entire state are selected by “Super Lawyers.” Kellner is recognized for his practice in the area of Personal Injuries/Plaintiffs. He lives in Weybridge, and has served as president of the Vermont Trial Lawyers Association and the Addison County Bar Association.

ACTR announces Snow Bowl run schedule

MIDDLEBURY — ACTR kicks off its daily Snow Bowl Shuttle Bus Ski Season Schedule on Monday, Dec. 19, just in time for school vacation! The Snow Bowl bus connects Middlebury to Rikert and the Snow Bowl via East Middlebury. The ski season weekday schedule will offer six runs Mondays through Thursdays and eight on Fridays. The ski season weekend schedule will offer six runs on both Saturdays and Sundays.

Thief returns to retrieve dropped cell phone

Monkton youth get a say in town planning

MONKTON — The Monkton Planning Commission (MPC) is looking for a high school senior or junior from Monkton who to join the commission. This is a great opportunity for a young person to participate in town government and to help plan the town’s future direction.

This is also a way for the planning commission to listen to the younger generation’s voice and opinion on town matters and a way for youth to engage meaningfully in their community and in the workings of town government.

Vergennes city council takes steps to improve pedestrian safety

VERGENNES — Vergennes officials have begun taking steps they believe will lead to safer downtown crosswalks for pedestrians and schoolchildren.

At the Nov. 29 city council meeting, aldermen agreed the city’s Water Tower Fund could be used to pay for some improvements, possibly sooner than later, and added Aldermen Matt Chabot and Mark Koenig to a task force that is looking at ways to improve pedestrian safety.
