BRANDON — The Rutland Northeast Supervisory Union has no intention of retooling its school budgets or waiting until a May date to have voters weigh in, despite what Gov. Phil Scott outlined in his budget address late last month.

The Brandon Reporter met with RNeSU Superintendent Jeanne Collins and Business Manager Brenda Fleming last week to discuss Scott’s directive, which came in a sweeping budget address just five days earlier.

Regulators penalize Vermont Gas for 'imprudence' on pipeline

Posted on February 6, 2017 |
By Mike Polhamus VTDigger.org

MONTPELIER — Vermont Gas Systems acknowledged Thursday that it “did not prudently plan and manage” a 41-mile pipeline extension in Addison County in the early stages of the project.

As a penalty, the company’s income will be capped for the next three years, according to a settlement with state regulators filed late Thursday afternoon.

Vermont Gas may earn no more than an 8.5 percent return on its capital assets through 2019.

Early in his woodworking career, Cunningham ran a rustic handmade furniture company and was a member of Vermont WoodNet — a local group of woodcrafters. “WoodNet was a good group to help me get going,” he said.

MIDDLEBURY — Interested singers will gather together at the Champlain Valley Unitarian Universalist Society on Saturday, Feb. 18, to learn and sing the march “anthem” that went viral at the Women’s March in Washington, D.C., just after the inauguration.

Besides having a good time (with conversation and refreshments after the singing), organizers hope singers in Addison County will feel empowered to sing this song “I Can’t Keep Quiet” at pertinent venues such as future marches or vigils.

ADDISON COUNTY — Police officials in Addison County said a newly released report alleging the presence of racially biased policing in Vermont provides an inaccurate and unfair portrayal of their respective departments, and is based on traffic-stop data that has been skewed to arrive at a conclusion.

The report, titled “Driving While Black and Brown in Vermont,” was authored by Prof. Stephanie Seguino of the University of Vermont Economic Department, and Nancy Brooks, a visiting associate professor at Cornell University.
