MIDDLEBURY — This summer, those looking for art won’t find it at the Middlebury College Museum of Art.

The museum’s sprinkler and plumbing system is undergoing significant repair work, which began in May and will continue until August, said Douglas Perkins, operations manager for the museum.

The museum, which is housed in the Mahaney Center for the Arts, will reopen Sept. 4, and the main exhibit for the fall, “China Modern,” will go up Sept. 13.

HINESBURG/FERRISBURGH — There’s a new brand of organic milk hitting the shelves in stores around Vermont from a Ferrisburgh farm that after years producing high-quality milk is now also bottling it and sending it to retailers.

Kimball Brook Farm has been milking 200 Jersey and Holstein cows and selling to the national market for 15 years. But when Cheryl and J.D. DeVos flipped the switch at their small Hinesburg bottling plant on May 17, they were marking a major transition to processor and distributor of their own milk.

ADDISON COUNTY –– Many Addison County schools have gardens that supply food to their lunch programs and teach students about agriculture during the academic year.

However, over the summer vacation, when these gardens need the most care, students are at home.

Three local schools — Ferrisburgh Central School, Lincoln Community School and Patricia A. Hannaford Career Center — have figured out how to address this issue, with solutions ranging from committees to parent involvement to partnering with youth day camps.

VERMONT — Like thousands of Vermonters, Kristen Andrews turned to the food assistance program 3SquaresVT when she had exhausted all other options. In the fall of 2011 her income dropped, and the local educator and mother of four filed an application for help from the federally funded program formerly called Food Stamps.

But Andrews, a Lincoln resident, never expected the application would lead to a mistake that doubled her family’s health insurance premium. And she couldn’t have foreseen the long and arduous process of straightening it out.

CORNWALL — Four Addison Central Supervisory Union schools are considering hosting solar arrays as a means of lowering their respective electricity bills while providing on-site renewable energy lessons for their students.
