MIDDLEBURY — As Washington, D.C., native Kate McCreary walked to receive her college diploma on Sunday, she breathed a sigh.

“I was kind of relieved, both to have a college diploma and also to have the graduation over so I can sleep a little bit,” the freshly minted Middlebury College alum said. “I feel celebratory and excited! It didn’t really make me sad.”

GOSHEN — As you read this, be it at 7 a.m. or 11 p.m. or 2 a.m., a few “dedicated” souls are out running laps on a figure-8 course comprised of 26.4 miles of rocky, muddy, undulating trails in the Moosamaloo Wilderness. They’ve been running since 8:08 a.m. last Thursday, when 10 members of the newly formed Endurance Society crossed the start of Infinitus, an 888-kilometer (551.7 mile), 10-day trail race dreamed up by Vermonters Andy Weinberg and Jack Cary.

BRISTOL — Mount Abraham Union High School directors are hoping the third try will be the charm for a newly revised 2015-2016 spending plan that Addison Northeast Supervisory Union voters will field on Tuesday, June 9.

The proposed budget of $13,947,738 is $75,000 less than the $14,022,738 spending plan district voters most recently defeated by a 755 to 485 tally on April 14. Mount Abraham serves students in the ANeSU towns of Bristol, New Haven, Monkton, Starksboro and Lincoln.

MIDDLEBURY — For four decades, any Middlebury-area student with a keen interest in building or designing something has probably taken a course with Peter Jensen. As an industrial arts teacher, Jensen has helped teens turn their curiosity into reality.

But after 16 years each of teaching at the former Middlebury junior high and Middlebury Union High School, and most recently an eight-year-stint at the Patricia A. Hannaford Career Center, Jensen is ready to step away from the old drafting table and 3-D computer. He will be retiring next month.

BRANDON — Confusion between the regulators and a local insect control district last week threatened to halt mosquito spraying around Lake Dunmore and elsewhere in the area leading up to and during the first big weekend of the summer.

The new structure will be almost twice as large as the current facility so it can house all the road crew’s equipment: three trucks, a tractor, a grader and other smaller pieces of equipment.
