Girls' soccer: OV ties while others defeated

ADDISON COUNTY — In high school girls’ soccer play, all on Tuesday, Otter Valley earned a tie, but Mount Abraham, Vergennes and Middlebury all came up short.

OTTERS

The Otters received a 10-save effort from goalie Gabby Paolino, including a stop on a penalty kick, in a 0-0 tie at Twin Valley. OV is 1-4-1. Twin Valley goalie Tayler Courchesne made three saves.

Tiger runners lead the way with top-10 results at U-32

EAST MONTPELIER — Middlebury Union High School cross-country runners Sam Hodges and Caroline Hodges cracked the top 10 at Saturday’s U-32 Invitational to provide local highlights.

The Tiger boys finished seventh (209), while the Mount Abraham boys were 20th (548). The Tiger girls and Vergennes boys and girls also competed, but did not field full teams.

Mount Abe ties, Tigers fall in field hockey

ADDISON COUNTY — In high school field hockey action earlier this week Mount Abraham earned a tie on the road, while Middlebury dropped a home contest. Otter Valley (3-1-1) was set to visit St. Johnsbury on Wednesday after this issue’s deadline.

Tiger alumni to honor title teams on Friday

MIDDLEBURY — The MHS/MUHS Alumni Association will honor the 1967 and 1968 Tiger Football Teams at this year’s homecoming game against Essex on Friday evening Sept. 23. Coached by Hubie Wagner, Chuck Martin and Mike Cummings, they roared through their Division II schedules going 8-0 both years.

The 1967 team allowed only 38 points while scoring 255 points on their way to a Division II Title. A familiar opponent, Hartford, was in Division II at the time. Co-captains Ron Emilo and Jack Malzac led a strong team that included 18 seniors.

Tiger homecoming set for Sept. 22-23

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury High School/Middlebury Union High School Alumni Homecoming will take place on the weekend of Sept. 22- 23.

This year the alumni group will be dedicating the 1911 keystone from the MHS building that burned in 1954 and a bench in the new park at the corner of College and South Main streets. That dedication will take place on Saturday, the 23rd, at 10 a.m.

That same weekend, the alumni group will honor the 50th anniversary MUHS football team, as well as new inductees to the MHS/MUHS Hall of Fame.

Tiger girls soccer team outscores stubborn Vergennes squad

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School girls’ soccer team scored twice early in Monday’s second half to snap a 1-1 tie on the way to a 4-2 victory over stubborn Vergennes.

The Tigers improved to 3-0 and racked up 15 goals in those games.

On Monday senior Andi Boe scored twice, including the go-ahead goal a minute after the half, pushing her season total to seven. Senior striker Isabel Rosenberg and junior middie Ailey Bosworth notched the other goals.

VUHS, MUHS come out on top in girls' soccer

ADDISON COUNTY — In local high school girls’ soccer play late last week, Vergennes and Middlebury posted wins, while Otter Valley split two games and Mount Abraham came up short.

COMMODORES

The Commodores got two first-half goals from Emily Rooney and made them stand up in a 2-1 win over visiting Fair Haven on Friday. Ashley Tierney made seven saves for the Commodores as they evened their record at 1-1.

Megan Ezzo scored for the Slaters, and goalie Emma Ezzo stopped 11 shots.
