BRISTOL — Friday’s 2-1 setback to visiting Division I Essex dropped the Division II Mount Abraham Union High School field hockey team to 5-3, but even though it represented the Eagles’ third loss in four games, Coach Mary Stetson was not upset afterward.

To start with, the 5-1-2 Hornets are playing like D-I title favorites. Friday’s win was their fifth straight and the first in that stretch in which Essex has even allowed a goal.

Spaulding football is no match for Eagles

Posted on September 23, 2013 |
By John Flowers

BRISTOL — Football teams who face the Mount Abraham/Vergennes Union High School teams this year know they are going to be fed dangerous doses of the team’s powerful running back tandem of Tommy Lee Hodsden and Austin Lafayette.

Visiting Spaulding was no different on Saturday, though they also got a glimpse of the Eagles’ developing passing attack, which produced two scores en route to the Eagles’  38-6 victory.

MIDDLEBURY — Friday’s field hockey game at Middlebury Union High School showed both why Mount Abraham should again be a force in Division II this fall, and why the Tigers could take a step forward from 2012.

In the end, the 4-0 Eagles deservedly walked off with a 4-3 win in which they built a 4-1 lead and earned edges of 20-8 in shots at goal and 16-6 in penalty corners.

Mount Abe grads make poetic exit from school

Mount-Abe-Grad.jpg

BRISTOL — Mount Abraham Union High School on Saturday sent 143 freshly minted graduates into the world with good wishes wrapped in prose, song and the letter “P.”

“Prepare yourself for a panoramic, pragmatic, participatory promenade through powerful, profound prose that may seem pedantic, and please refrain from propelling projectiles until the pronounced peroration point prevails,” graduation speaker Scott Beckwith, an MAUHS social studies teacher, urged the seniors in an alliterative tongue twister.
