Local woman battles opiate addiction, finds hope with suboxone

MIDDLEBURY — It was New Year’s Eve 1998 when Cheryl Barrows got her first taste of heroin.

“I met this ‘wonderful’ guy in Rutland who put a needle in my arm and said, ‘This is wonderful stuff,’” recalled Barrows. “I looked out of the window, saw a pink cloud and my pain was gone. I felt nothing.”

Counterfeit tickets to cost Field Days thousands

NEW HAVEN — In the final days of the Addison County Fair and Field Days this past August, Ken Button, one of the fair’s directors, was counting the tickets that had been collected that week. He was trying to get a sense of how many people had come through the gates. On the table in front of him lay stacks of exhibitor day passes and season passes arranged by type of ticket.

But when he looked closely at the stacks of tickets, something didn’t look right.

State police report gun thefts in county

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police are investigating a rash of firearm thefts in the county. Two thefts last week bring the total to three since Sept. 20, each in a separate town.

Police responded to Shellhouse Mountain Road in Ferrisburgh Oct. 5 where a man said he had left his .45 caliber pistol, in its carrying case, on the back of his truck and then drove away, causing it to fall off. Police said they spoke with someone who saw the gun case on the side of the road. Police found the case, but the gun was not in it.

Orwell man charged with shooting after arguing over a horse

ORWELL — An Orwell man is scheduled to be arraigned later today in Addison Superior Court, criminal division, on aggravated assault and reckless endangerment charges after he allegedly fired a gun in the direction of some neighbors during an argument over a horse.

Jeffrey A. Bradish, 51, was ordered held on $15,000 bail at the Chittenden County Correctional Center on Thursday, Oct. 9, following his arrest.

Rutland men charged in assault on woman, teen

MIDDLEBURY — Two Rutland men are facing assault-related charges in connection with their alleged roles in an Aug. 18 fight at a Seymour Street residence in Middlebury where a woman was struck in the face and a youth was beaten and choked to the point of almost losing consciousness, according to records on file at the Addison County Courthouse.

Grover W. Pangburn, 39, pleaded innocent on Monday in Addison Superior Court, criminal division, to a felony charge of aggravated assault stemming from the fight.

Whiting man cited for threatening

MIDDLEBURY — A Whiting man on Monday pleaded innocent to disorderly conduct in Addison Superior Court, criminal division, in connection with a June 2 incident during which he allegedly threatened and harassed a worker at the Whiting General Store.

Alan N. White III, who according to court records has previously used the aliases “Jesus Christ” and “Jesus Christ White,” is accused of having entered the store on June 2 and threatened the store employee, according to an affidavit filed by Vermont State Police Trooper Andrew Leise.

Vermont State Police Log: Break-ins continue at trailheads

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police are investigating several car break-ins at trailheads in Lincoln and Ripton that were reported Sunday evening.

Police were alerted to the first two break-ins between 5 and 5:30 p.m. at the Robert Frost Hiking Trail in Ripton.

Ritchie jailed as police link him to 46 home burglaries

MIDDLEBURY — Around 20 Addison and Shoreham residents packed the main courtroom at the Mahaney Courthouse in Middlebury on Monday fearing the man they believe burglarized their homes — Raymond Ritchie — would be released after his arraignment on an unrelated cultivation of marijuana charge.

Teen driver charged in Bristol accident that killed elderly pedestrian

BRISTOL — A Bristol 19-year-old who was driving a car that stuck and killed an elderly pedestrian in Bristol last fall has been charged by a grand jury with grossly negligent driving with death resulting, Bristol police disclosed Friday morning.

Ashley Ann Nancollas, according to police, was driving a car down North Street near the intersection of Park Place on Nov. 24, 2012, when her car stuck Ann Roscoe, 86, of Bristol, who was crossing the street.

Former N.Y. resident cited for 'luring' a 15-year-old boy

MIDDLEBURY — A 21-year-old man living in Waltham pleaded not guilty on Monday in Addison County court to two charges of trying to sexually exploit a 15-year-old boy and sending explicit photos to the boy via a cell phone.

Robert Ritchey, a former Potsdam, N.Y., resident who had been renting a room in a Waltham home, faces up to five years and a fine of $10,000 on the first charge of sexual exploitation/luring a child, and another year and a $1,000 fine for sending indecent material to a minor.
