BRISTOL — Bristol will hold its third crime forum at Mount Abraham Union High School this Wednesday, Oct. 17, from 7-9 p.m. While the last two forums, in July and September, focused on providing information to the community, the goal of the third forum is to hone in on potential steps forward. A man had barricaded himself inside the residence with an infant child, Police Chief Kevin Gibbs said. The subject was allegedly refusing to return the child to the child’s mother.

The first officer on scene was informed that the man (whose name was not released, as court action is still pending) had taken drugs with a group of other people before the officer had arrived.

Mt Abe football blocked pass-FB-007.jpg

BRISTOL — If the Mount Abraham/Vergennes cooperative high school football team wanted to establish itself as a legitimate Division II playoff contender, it had to beat somebody besides opening day victim Montpelier, a program that forfeited its most recent game.

Mission accomplished.

On Saturday, the Eagle offense came alive after a slow start for 267 rushing yards, and senior Cody Alexander’s touchdown with 20 seconds to go and gave Mount Abe a dramatic 27-21 win over visiting Windsor, a D-II finalist in 2011.

BRISTOL — When Tropical Storm Irene slammed Vermont  a year ago, Bristol wasn’t as badly marred as some Vermont towns. But large sections of several major roads were wiped out, construction projects were taken back to phase one and several old structures were destroyed.

One year later, Bristol Administrator Bill Bryant said the town’s infrastructure and finances are in good shape. He credited the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans), among others, for aiding in the recovery.

BRISTOL — When husband-wife duo Jeff Weaber and Katina Martin moved back to Addison County in 2005, Martin — a naturopathic physician — founded Salisbury Natural Family Health the following year.

Weaber, with his years of brewing experience in Oregon, decided to combine his and his wife’s skillsets to create a beverage high in vitamins and probiotic yeast and bacteria: kombucha, a slightly fermented tea first produced in Asia. In the autumn of 2007, the kombucha company Aqua Vitea was born in the basement of Weaber and Martin’s Salisbury home.
