LINCOLN — Once again, the Chase Purinton Monument on Quaker Street in Lincoln looks picture-perfect for all of its leaf-peeping admirers.
The foundation of the 107-year-old monument was crumbling and in need of repair earlier this year when Pete Mikkelsen, the owner of the former Chase Purinton farmstead, decided it was time to take action. LINCOLN — Plans for revamping the Lincoln Community School (LCS) facility were put on pause when the Vermont education commissioner rejected the school board’s $3 million-$4 million bond proposal early last week. The school board and Building Committee met on Wednesday to discuss possible next steps for the school.

The decision arrived in a letter written by School Construction Coordinator Cathy Hilgendorf on behalf of Commissioner Armando Vilaseca.

LINCOLN — After months of deliberation, the Lincoln Community School building committee has recommended major renovations and expansions to the aging school. LINCOLN — “Why pigs?” was the first question posed to Nate Gusakov, owner and operator of Full Belly Farm located off Quaker Street in Lincoln. His answer was simple and unabashed:

“Why pigs?” he responded. “Bacon, in a word.”

Before he began leasing his 17-acre farm three years ago, Gusakov had been a wandering graduate of Sterling College’s Sustainable Agriculture program and Bristol-native who dreamed of one day operating his own small farm.

LINCOLN — Last Sunday, the driver of a car with a Massachusetts license plate stopped his car abruptly on Isham Hollow Road in Lincoln. He didn’t quite know what to do.

A team of six draft horses trotted ahead of him, pulling a wagon up a hill. Apparently, the driver didn’t know the proper etiquette for sharing the road with the old-fashioned six-horsepower vehicles.

LINCOLN — When she reached her mid-forties, Khenmo Drolma was diagnosed with cancer and given five years to live. The diagnosis pushed her to dedicate herself completely to the religion that she had been dabbling in since she was 30, Buddhism.

“That experience gave me the incentive to make a full spiritual commitment to Buddhism,” Khenmo said.

LINCOLN — The Lincoln Historical Society’s latest exhibit is full of familiar names and faces: those of neighbors, brothers, fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers. For each one there are many other men and women who’ve represented Addison County in the armed forces.

Ask Norman Steadman, the curator at the historical society’s museum, and he’ll tell you that these are the faces of service, the embodiment of the sacrifices that Addison County residents have made for their families, towns and country over the decades.
