LINCOLN — A Vermont mountain town, a rushing river, a sleepwalking woman who vanishes into the night. For his 19th novel, Lincoln author Chris Bohjalian returns to his fictional setting of Bartlett, a village not unlike Lincoln, perched along a river not unlike the New Haven.

And in “The Sleepwalker,” which hits bookstore shelves next week, Bohjalian again mines the inexhaustible terrain of family secrets — the troubling layers deep beneath the surface of seemingly ordinary family life.

This will be an opportunity for high-energy dancing with local band Gumbo Ya-Ya as participants send their positive love vibes to North Dakota, where our brothers and sisters have been fighting for the rights of indigenous people and protecting public water from threats posed by running the Dakota Access Pipeline under an important reservoir and the Missouri River.

Lincoln readies new energy efficient town offices

Posted on November 4, 2016 |
By Gaen Murphree

LINCOLN — The new Lincoln town office building is a mere step from completion, according to Selectboard Chairman Bill Finger. What remains to be done are small details like attaching electric plates and polishing the floor.

“Looks like it’ll be done by the end of the week,” said Finger.

Finger said town office personnel plan to wait until after Tuesday’s election and then move in during the week of Nov. 14. The office will probably then close for business for several days before reopening.

LINCOLN — Every October for 30 years, organizers at Weathervane Outreach in Lincoln have reached out to seniors (and to whoever walks through the door) to provide a listening ear, good food, a good laugh and a chance to rock an awesome costume at an annual Halloween party.

And, yes, there have also been blood pressure checks at the party since 1991 and flu shots since 1995.

Lincoln solves its trash dilemma

Posted on October 31, 2016 |
By Gaen Murphree

LINCOLN — The Lincoln selectboard has been searching for an alternative to its longtime trash hauler since Casella Waste Systems announced last May it could keep coming to Lincoln, but for a much heftier price.

At its Oct. 18 meeting, the selectboard reached an agreement with Moose Rubbish and Recycling to take over trash hauling and recycling services in town.

The good news for residents is that the new agreement with Moose means business as usual, in terms of when and where trash is picked up and how much it costs residents per bag.

Lincoln faces trash deadline

Posted on September 29, 2016 |
By Gaen Murphree

LINCOLN — Casella Waste Systems said it will end or change its current arrangement with Lincoln on Oct. 1 and no new arrangement is yet in place.

The town’s selectboard is still searching for affordable and workable ways to get Lincoln’s trash and recycling picked up.

Selectboard Chair Bill Finger said that the volume of recyclables and trash that Lincoln produces is not enough to make it cost-effective for Casella to come up the mountain and collect it from an area with a dispersed population.

New Lincoln town office 'progressing well'

By Gaen Murphree

LINCOLN —The new Lincoln town office remains on schedule to be completed by mid-October, selectboard Chair Bill Finger reported at a Sept. 6 meeting of the board.

Workers are finishing up the electrical wiring, Finger said, and are beginning to prime for painting. He expects the cabinetry, which is being built off-site, to arrive soon.

“It’s shaping up,” said Finger. “All the major things are there, and we’re progressing well.”
