Lincoln benefit a big success

LINCOLN — Brenda Staples, organizer of the “Rock For Roxanne Benefit” at Burnham Hall in Lincoln on March 2, reports that the fundraiser was a great success.

“I would like to thank everyone for coming out on a stormy Friday night and supporting Roxanne Smith,” Staples said. “Thanks to all those who attended as well as those who donated their amazing music, their time and energy, food, beverages and items for the raffle.”

Lincoln artists to be honored for community work

BRISTOL — The 5-Town Friends of the Arts will be honoring Deborah Lubar and Marianne Lust at an event at Holley Hall in Bristol Sunday, March 18, from 1-3 p.m.

Marianne and Deborah, both Lincoln residents, will be celebrated for their decades of performances, nurturing the arts and artists, and keeping the ancient art of storytelling alive in this neck of the woods. There will be music, readings, testimonials, and refreshments. The event is free and open to the public.

Starline Rhythm Boys celebrate 20th in Lincoln

Most of us know of The Starline Rhythm Boys — heck, most of us have probably stomped around to their vintage country, honky-tonk and rockabilly music. Well this Saturday, March 10, the three-member band is celebrating 20 years of playing together at the Burnham Music Series in Lincoln.

It all started back in 1962 when Billy Bratcher (upright bassist) was born.

Lincoln New for March 8

LINCOLN — The Starline Rhythm Boys will be celebrating their 20th anniversary at Burnham Hall, on Saturday, March 10, as part of the Burnham Music Series. The Starline Rhythm Boys perform vintage country, honky-tonk and rockabilly music along with very powerful country harmony duet vocals. Their repertoire consists of many superb originals, as well as great covers of both classic and obscure numbers. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, teens and kids are free. Refreshments will be served.

Voters reject Mount Abe bond for third time; new approaches sought

ADDISON COUNTY — After voters in the Addison Northeast Supervisory Union on Tuesday defeated a $29.5 million bond for the renovation of Mount Abraham Middle/High School, 1,785–1,196, the pressing question is, “What now?”

The bond’s defeat for the third time most likely delays any construction until at least 2020, pending the ability of the 5-town community to agree on a building project, vote for a bond and start the design phase.

Lincoln town meeting wrap-up 2018

LINCOLN — Voters in Lincoln re-elected Paul Forlenza and James Needham to the selectboard on Town Meeting Day, and re-elected Sally Ober to a one-year term as town clerk. The three ran unopposed.

In a contested race for a Lincoln seat on the Mount Abraham Unified School District (MAUSD) board, Sarah McClain defeated Annie Svitavsky, 321–113.

Two Lincoln women run for one school board seat

2018 Lincoln town meeting preview

LINCOLN — The annual town meeting in Lincoln will be held upstairs in Burnham Hall on Monday, March 5, at 6 p.m.

Voters will be asked to approve a 14 percent increase in general fund spending to $385,102, and a 4.4 percent decrease in highway fund spending to $978,893.

Mount Abe bond faces crucial vote

BRISTOL — Residents of Mount Abe Unified School District will try for a third time to pass a bond vote to renovate the aging middle-and-high school facility on March 6, Town Meeting Day. This third vote is much like the previous two, with some significant compromises to reflect a 20 percent drop in proposed spending on the renovation.
