Vergennes Police Log: City man cited for driving under the influence of drugs

VERGENNES — Police on Aug. 31 cited a Vergennes resident for driving under the influence of drugs after stopping his car on School Street for erratic operation.

Russell Hulst, 57, was processed for DUI-drugs and also ticketed for driving with a civilly suspended license, police said.

In other incidents between Aug. 28 and Sept. 3, Vergennes police:

•  On Aug. 28 persuaded an upset teenage girl to go to Porter Hospital and meet with Counseling Service of Addison County personnel.

Bristol Police Log: Police, rescue squad aid woman in gas station bathroom

BRISTOL — On Aug. 23 at 7:42 p.m., Bristol police were called to the Maplefields-Irving gas station, where a woman was locked in the restroom and not responding.

The officer broke in to the restroom and found the woman breathing but non-responsive. The Bristol Rescue Squad was summoned and the woman transported to Porter Hospital.

Vermont State Police Log: Troopers respond when ATV and tractor-trailer crash on Route 22A

ADDISON COUNTY — On Wednesday, Aug. 23, at approximately 1:18 p.m. Vermont State Police, the Addison Fire Department and Middlebury Regional EMS responded to a two-vehicle crash on Route 22A at the intersection with Grand View Lane in Addison.

Middlebury Police Log: Investigation launched into cruelty to child

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police launched an investigation on Aug. 22 into a possible case of cruelty to a child, stemming from information police they received from Porter Medical Center officials.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Responded to a report of a family fight near the intersection of Route 116 and Mead Lane on Aug. 21. Police said two brothers had been fighting.

•  Quieted a loud party at a Valley View Drive residence on Aug. 21.

Vergennes Police Log: City police busy with alcohol-related cases

VERGENNES — A citation for driving under the influence of drugs, an alcohol-related case and a family fight were among incidents that Vergennes police handled between Aug. 21 and 27.

During those seven days, Vergennes police:

•  On Aug. 21 responded to an argument between a man and his girlfriend’s daughter at a Scovil Lane residence. Police calmed the dispute, persuaded the woman to find a place to stay for the night, and told the man, who alleged the woman had struck him, how to obtain a relief-from-abuse order.

Vergennes Police Log: Local man cited for allegedly assaulting woman who was carrying a baby

VERGENNES — On Aug. 11 Vergennes police arrested a 27-year-old city resident and cited him for aggravated domestic assault.

Police allege Richard T. Brown grabbed his girlfriend’s teenage daughter by the neck and threw her on a couch, while the victim was carrying a baby in her arms. They said the victim was not seriously hurt, but suffered scratches.

Police allege that Brown was intoxicated at the time of the incident, which they said occurred in at School Street residence. Police jailed Brown at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility.

Bristol Police Log: Vandal shoots village residence full of bullet holes

BRISTOL — On Aug. 8, Bristol police responded to reported vandalism at a village residence. The resident alleged that male juveniles had shot numerous holes into the home’s siding. Police are working to identify the suspects.

On Aug. 7, 10 and 13, Bristol police checked security at Mount Abraham Union High School. Officers conducted foot patrols on Main Street and in the surrounding area on Aug. 7, 8, 11 and 13. And between Aug. 7 and Aug. 13, Bristol police processed four fingerprint requests for employment purposes.

Middlebury Police Log: Authorities investigating alleged sexual misconduct

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police on Aug. 14 launched an investigation into allegations of sexual contact initiated by a boy toward a local girl.

Police said the Vermont Department for Children and Families asked them to investigate the matter.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Received a report on Aug. 13 that a local woman had posted on social media that she wanted to harm herself. Police made sure the woman was taken to a family member’s residence.

Bristol Police Log: Two jailed after police find them together

BRISTOL — A Bristol police officer’s observation on Aug. 8 of Patrick Cota, 24, of Bristol and Melissa Sird, 35, of Ferrisburgh together at a Bristol business started a chain of police actions.

Police report that their investigation showed that Cota and Sird were under court-ordered conditions of release that prevented each with having contact with the other. On Aug. 9 an officer found Cota at his West Street home and also searched the home and found Sird there. The officer took them both into custody without incident.
