UPDATE: ANeSU appoints interim superintendent

BRISTOL — Monday night, the Addison Northeast Supervisory Union school board appointed Assistant Superintendent Catrina DiNapoli as Acting Superintendent, with responsibilities effective today, Tuesday, Sept. 29.

The ANeSU board also passed a motion to begin a search for a new superintendent.

The board took no formal action regarding Superintendent David Adams. ANeSU board chair Dawn Griswold said in an email on Tuesday afternoon that:

Bristol planners call for uncluttered green

BRISTOL — At Monday’s selectboard meeting, the Bristol Planning Commission requested a moratorium on any further modifications to the Bristol town green until the selectboard can create and approve an ordinance addressing use and development of the park in the center of town.

Bristol’s Harvest Festival & car show return this weekend

BRISTOL — The last weekend of September will be a busy one in Bristol, with two events bringing visitors and area residents to downtown Bristol. The Bristol Harvest Festival will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26, on the green, and the Better L8 Than Never Car Show will be held the next day, Sunday, Sept. 27, at the Bristol Recreation Field.

Bristol group seeks public involvement in downtown

BRISTOL — Bristol CORE, an organization whose goal is to maintain economic vitality in town, is gearing up to reapply for the Vermont Designated Downtown status that has helped local businesses thrive.

Since gaining Designed Downtown status for Bristol in 2006, the organization (formerly known as the Bristol Downtown Community Partnership) has raised funds to dress up downtown with new lampposts, new benches on the town green, plantings around the downtown, and safe and inviting access along Prince Lane.

Group seeks more free meals at schools; ANeSU takes the lead

Mediator tells ebattled ANeSU to go for training

BRISTOL — A federal mediator has recommended that the superintendent of the Bristol-area schools and the teachers in those schools take part in training to warm up the cool relationship between the parties.

The Addison Northeast Supervisory Union Executive Committee and the Addison Northeast Education Association teachers union (ANEDA) posted a joint statement and the recommendations of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services (FMCS) mediator on the ANeSU website this past Thursday.

Ribbon campaign in Bristol is visual cue to think on cancer

BRISTOL — Around 40 teal-colored ribbons hanging from lampposts all around the Bristol village center announce that Turn the Towns Teal has come to Bristol. September is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and the Turn the Towns Teal campaign aims to save women’s lives by “tealing” towns in all 50 states — and raising awareness of the disease and its symptoms.

Ribbons (biodegradable and made in the USA) stay up for all of September and are then removed.

Future of Bristol-area schools to be discussed at forum

BRISTOL — Residents, teachers, students and other community members are invited to an open public forum to discuss the future of the Addison Northeast Supervisory Union’s public schools on Monday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. at the Mount Abraham Union High School cafeteria.

This forum is sponsored by the Friends of the Five Town Schools (FFTS), a new group committed to supporting students, teachers and families to create vibrant schools in the Bristol area and to help give voice to the local community in the school system.

Early registration is open for Tour de Farms

BRISTOL — The Tour de Farms is one of Vermont’s oldest cycling farm tours and is set in Addison County’s rolling farmlands — voted New England’s best biking by Yankee magazine. Over 3,000 people have ridden the tour over the last 7 years in Shoreham and Orwell.
