BRANDON — The Brandon selectboard has given its blessing to another solar project in town.

Mike Norris of Norris Brothers Solar Development of New Haven appeared before the board on April 24 to request a letter of support for a 500-kilowatt solar array on 3.75 acres next to the Smoke Rise Quarry off Route 7 north of downtown.

Norris said he and his brother Pete started the solar company three years ago with the goal of building smaller, 150- to 500-kilowatt solar projects.

Student exchange at OV .jpg

LEICESTER — Imagine you’re spending 10 months in a foreign country, and you don’t know a soul.

Now imagine you’re only 16 or 17 years old.

Wouldn’t it be great if you had a host family to take you in and help you navigate American culture?

David Allan is hoping more families in the Addison and Rutland counties feel that way. In his second year as an area representative for World Heritage International, a non-profit student exchange organization, Allan is one of only two reps in the state of Vermont.

PITTSFORD — When Jim Hill was eight years old, he watched the 1984 Rutland High School football team win the Division I State Championship — and that’s when he knew.

LEICESTER — When Adam Young worked in the dishroom at the Brandon Inn, he may not have imagined he would become an acclaimed pastry chef. But if you ask Brandon Inn co-owner and chef Louis Pattis, Young was something special from the start.

“That kid is the hardest worker you could ever find,” Pattis said. “Work for him was just something he had to do, no complaints.”
