Mill Street arts school in need of new home

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Studio School must soon end what has been a 40-year relationship with the Frog Hollow area, and leaders of the local arts education organization are appealing to area property owners who might have space into which the group could relocate its headquarters.

“We would like to remain as close to the downtown as possible,” said Barbara Nelson, executive director of the studio school.

But on July 26, this cast of unlikely Addison County thespians will take a common walk down the proverbial red carpet at Middlebury’s Marquis Theater, for the premier of their short film, “The Offer.”

Bullrock to sell Middlebury retirement community, others

Middlebury residential tax rate up by 8.4 cents

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury selectboard on Tuesday approved a fiscal year 2015 municipal tax rate of 94 cents per $100 in property value, representing an almost 3-cent bump and a 3-percent increase from the current town rate of just over 91 cents.

When added to education property taxes computed by the state, Middlebury taxpayers will be assessed an overall fiscal year 2015 residential property tax rate of $2.717 per $100 of property value.

That rate is up 8.4 cents from the fiscal year 2014 rate of $2.633, an increase of about 3.2 percent.

Salisbury to consider bond for new bridge in village

SALISBURY — Salisbury residents are being asked to gather at a special meeting on Tuesday, July 15, to hear details about a plan to replace the deteriorating Maple Street bridge in the village.

That project is tentatively estimated at $850,000, of which $625,000 would be sought through a bond issue to be floated to Salisbury voters this November.

More help on the way for opiate addicts, Bristol doctors to serve more Suboxone patients

MIDDLEBURY — Porter Medical Center and the Counseling Service of Addison County (CSAC) will join forces to substantially expand the county’s only Suboxone program to help opiate addicts, a move that will allow Bristol Internal Medicine to deliver the much-needed service to 80-90 patients, up from the current 25.

The Porter board approved the expanded Suboxone program last week, and did so even with the prospect of a $200,000 annual budget hit.
