ADDISON — Addison residents will join Vergennes voters in reconsidering the Town Meeting Day decision to approve changing governance of the Addison Northwest Supervisory Union to a one-board system.

Addison residents voted, 197-138, or 59-41 percent, on March 2, in favor of one-board governance, which would replace the current eight-board system. Three of the current boards — the Vergennes, Panton and Waltham ID boards — are set to dissolve in July regardless.

VERGENNES — As expected, Vergennes officials were handed on Tuesday a petition calling for a revote of the city’s Town Meeting Day decision to approve changing governance of the Addison Northwest Supervisory Union to a one-board system.

City Manager Mel Hawley said Aldermen Ziggy Comeau and David Austin and former planning commission member Michael Ferland each dropped off petitions with signatures calling for a second vote on the question. The total number of signatures totaled 85, in excess of the 75 needed to trigger a revote.

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury College women’s lacrosse team made it four wins in eight days on Saturday, when they returned from a successful weeklong road trip and defeated NESCAC rival Connecticut College, 14-6.

All four of those wins, including Tuesday’s huge 10-8 victory over previously undefeated Gettysburg, then ranked No. 2 in NCAA Division III, followed the Panthers’ stunning, 11-9, opening home setback to Bates in which they lost a big second-half lead.

ADDISON COUNTY — The four local high school boys’ basketball teams did not set the state on fire this winter. Only Vergennes crested .500, and injuries prevented the talented Commodores from reaching what might have been championship potential.

But each team benefited from fine individual performances that are recognized here on the 2010 Addison Independent Boys’ Basketball All-Star Team.

Wow, protesters spitting returned to the news for the first time since the Vietnam War.

Except this time, a health care bill protester outside the Capitol on Saturday really did spit, on a Congressman.
