BRISTOL — A lot of people get so excited about the prospect of retirement that they tick off days on a calendar.

Gibbs, 58, called it quits last September after a 31-year tenure with the Bristol Police Department, the final 25 of those spent as chief.

Lisa Balfour's paint pours pop with color

Posted on April 30, 2018 |
By Emma Cotton

LB4Paint2018-133.jpg

In a sun-lit home studio at her Shoreham home, artist Lisa Balfour mixes red, blue, orange and yellow acrylic paints into two plastic cups. With steady, quick hands, she flips them onto a white, wood-framed canvas, holding them upside-down until all of the paint drips and settles within the cups’ edges. After a few seconds, she uses the lip of the cup to push the paint in gentle swirls around the canvas.

MIDDLEBURY — The Henry Sheldon Museum of Vermont History has for years proudly shown visitors various objects Addison County’s earlier residents prized for work and play, as a way of better understanding what life was like in this area during the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.

BRISTOL — Hundreds of 5-Town residents will never forget it.

In the fall of 2011, nearly 100 students in bright yellow raincoats electrified the theater at Mount Abraham Union High School. Covered from one end to the other, the unusually wide stage seemed to push the students up through the floor, like flowers.

They were “Singin’ in the Rain,”of course.

Malcolm, Nacny 2018_7457.jpg

MIDDLEBURY — Nancy Malcolm never planned on joining the planning commission. It was former Better Middlebury Partnership Coordinator Gail Freidin who encouraged her to join in 2005.

“I had never thought about it, which begs the issue that you do have to ask and recruit new people,” she said.

Thirteen years later, Malcolm is stepping away from the commission after having led it through a very busy period that included a massive re-write of the Middlebury Town Plan.
