Local artist adds flair to Macy's holiday windows in New York City

Bristol police praise new headquarters

BRISTOL — The village police department has settled into a new space that officers say is more suitable for a modern police force.

The new, 2,200-square-foot headquarters for the Bristol Police Department, which has three full-time officers and five part-timers who work on an as-needed basis, is located at 72 Munsill Ave. in the Bristol Works.

Bristol Police Chief Kevin Gibbs said the difference between the new facility and the old department, which was located in the basement of Holley Hall, is “night and day.”

Panel considers video cameras for MUHS and MUMS

MIDDLEBURY — Bread Loaf Corp. on Tuesday unveiled the first detailed cost estimates for a new Middlebury municipal building and recreation center, placing the combined costs of those two projects at $7,204,000 — a figure that is roughly $700,000 more than the current construction budget of $6.5 million.

MIDDLEBURY — A Middlebury committee evaluating plans for new recreation and municipal office facilities has set Dec. 17 as the date on which it will recommend a preferred rec. center site to the town selectboard.

Until recently, the Middlebury Town Office & Recreation Facilities Steering Committee has been focusing on a single site for the proposed new, 11,507-square-foot recreation center: A portion of public recreation lands located near Mary Hogan Elementary School.

Mount Abe Principal Andy Kepes to resign at year's end

BRISTOL — Mount Abraham Union High School principal Andy Kepes has told the school board, faculty and students he intends to resign at the end of the current school year.

Kepes, who has been principal for five years, said he has enjoyed his time at Mount Abraham, but that the principal’s office was not a good fit for him.

Addison man paddles 750 miles in canoe of his own design

MIDDLEBURY — This past June, Addison canoe designer and builder Peter Macfarlane successfully completed a month-long solo paddle of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail, a series of traditional waterways that span the northern forests from Old Forge in the south-western Adirondacks of New York State, across Lake Champlain, and on to Fort Kent on the St. John River in northern Maine. The trail features upstream and downstream paddling across small and large rivers, placid and white water, small ponds and large lakes.

Cyclists injured in Tour de Farms are mending, will receive new bikes

SHOREHAM — Martin Veit and Sophie Gerry were both active cyclists until a fateful day this past fall in Shoreham when an allegedly drunken driver knocked them off their bikes and onto a long road to recovery. Neither of the two unrelated bikers have gotten back into the cycling saddle since the sixth annual Tour de Farms back on Sept. 15, when police say Brian E. Miller, 54, struck the pair as they were riding along Route 74 west of Shoreham village.
