MIDDLEBURY — A group of area parents will present a petition to the UD-3 board on Oct. 6 expressing concerns about Middlebury Union High School students’ performance on certain standardized tests, while urging administrators to raise the academic bar at the school.
ADDISON COUNTY — Cool temperatures and plenty of sunshine herald good news for apple growers in Addison County.
Those conditions are paving the way for good color on this year’s crop of apples, as well as thick crowds at pick-your-own orchards in the region.
“It’s a very good crop,” said Bill Suhr, the owner of Champlain Orchards in Shoreham, and many orchardists in the region are reporting similar news. Pickers took to the field last month and will be busy harvesting the county’s apple crop well into October.
MIDDLEBURY — The attorney for recently resigned Vergennes police chief Mike Lowe filed a Sept. 16 motion at Addison District Court seeking dismissal of the charges against Lowe for driving under the influence of prescription drugs. Those charges stem from the June 7 low-speed accident in Vergennes in which a police cruiser driven by Lowe struck a parked car.
