MONKTON — What a difference two years can make in politics.
In 2012, incumbent Reps. David Sharpe, D-Bristol, and Michael Fisher, D-Lincoln, were unopposed in their successful runs for new two-year terms representing the Addison-4 House district.
With the 2014 legislative session barely half over, two Republican candidates have already confirmed their plans to oppose Sharpe and Fisher in the two-seat district that includes Bristol, Starksboro, Lincoln and Monkton.
MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury Legion Post 27 on Saturday rolled out the proverbial red carpet for a special VIP: None other than American Legion National Commander Dan Dellinger, who was in town as part of a listening tour to get information on how to better serve the country’s more than 21 million military veterans.
BRISTOL — A new dental practice has opened in the BristolWorks business complex that aims to expand dental coverage to residents of all walks of life throughout the five-town area.
The clinic, Red Clover Family Dentistry, opened last month and is headed by Patrick Rowe, D.D.S.
Rowe said the practice will accept Medicaid, and will offer a sliding scale payment system for patients who need assistance paying their bill.
MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury College men’s lacrosse team could not hold an early lead on Saturday and fell to visiting Connecticut College, 6-3.
MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Amateur Hockey Association Under-14 girls’ hockey team won the Vermont championship on Saturday to highlight a busy weekend at Middlebury’s Memorial Sports Center.
The sports center hosted the second annual Vermont State Amateur Hockey Association Championship Weekend from Friday through Sunday, an event that included 30 teams playing in 15 championship games for skaters between the ages of 8 and 18.
WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt./TROY, N.Y. — Area swimmers posted some impressive performances recently when the Middlebury Aquatic Club competed in the 2014 New England 12-and-Under Age Group Championship Meet at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River Junction and the Bristol-based Addison Otter Swim Team raced at the Silver Short Course Championship at the RPI Robison Pool in Troy, NY.
STOWE/RIPTON — Athletes from Ripton’s Frost Mountain Nordic Club recently helped a regional team win a national competition in Stowe and a Vermont team win a regional competition on the club’s home course in Ripton.
