By John Flowers

ADDISON COUNTY — Addison County is in dire need of a new infusion of Guardians Ad Litem, community members who volunteer their time to make sure the voices of abused, troubled and/or neglected children get heard in court proceedings.

That’s the word from state and local officials who said Addison County is down to about a dozen Guardians Ad Litem, some of whom are having to field more than a dozen cases simultaneously due to a dearth of volunteers available to take on the workload.

BRISTOL — Volunteers packed more than a quarter-million meals last weekend in Bristol and Essex at the culmination of a drive to send aid to starving children. With Love From Vermont, a Christian charity that operates in Chittenden, Addison and Rutland counties, had been raising money for food packets specifically designed for the bodies of malnourished children.

The charity buys the supplies, organizes volunteers to put them into individual serving packets, and WLFV’s partner, the international Christian charity Feed My Starving Children, distributes them.

NEW HAVEN — Town officials have cancelled events that were to be held at the New Haven Town Hall because of an air quality problem caused by mold.

The Harvest Fest and Craft Sale, which had been scheduled for Oct. 19, and the Halloween Party, which had been scheduled for Oct. 26, have both been canceled.

Town Clerk Pam Kingman said the events were cancelled because of a lingering mold problem in the building. Mold first appeared this summer after heavy rains.
