BRISTOL — The Mount Abraham/Vergennes cooperative football team nailed down the No. 4 seed in Division III on Saturday with a 42-0 win over visiting Poultney.
The 6-2 Eagles will host 5-2 Otter Valley this coming Saturday at 1 p.m. in a quarterfinal matchup, with the winner almost certain to travel to meet undefeated defending champion Woodstock the following weekend.
BURLINGTON — The Middlebury Union High School football team on Friday night wrapped up its undefeated regular season by beating host Burlington, 41-6.
The 8-0 Tigers also nailed down the No. 1 seed in Division 1. Unofficially as of Sunday morning, St. Johnsbury (3-5) apparently edged Mount Mansfield for the No. 8 seed, and the Highlanders will visit the Tigers on Friday night at 7 p.m.
ADDISON COUNTY — In final regular season action in local high school field hockey late last week, Otter Valley won twice to nail down the No. 2 seed in Division II, Mount Abraham earned a pair of ties against D-I competition to apparently earn D-II’s No. 3 seed, and Middlebury picked up a big road for the No. 8 seed and earn a first-round D-I playoff game.
Those seeds are unofficial: The Vermont Principals’ Association will release playoff pairings on Monday.
BRANDON — The Otter Valley Union High School football team rolled over visiting Oxbow on Saturday, 48-7, to apparently nail down the No. 5 seed in Division III with a 5-2 record overall, 5-1 in the league.
Unofficially as of Sunday morning, the Otters are set to visit No. 4 Mount Abraham (6-2, 6-2 D-III) on Saturday at 1 p.m. for a first-round playoff game.
ADDISON COUNTY — In the final regular season games for local high school boys’ soccer teams, Mount Abraham defeated Middlebury, but lost its perfect season on Saturday; Vergennes won on the road; and Otter Valley dropped a home game.
The Commodores also hosted the Tigers on Saturday; see story.
The Vermont Principals’ Association will release Division II pairings on Monday. The Eagles had already clinched the top seed, while VUHS and OV will open on the road. MUHS (1-12-1) will not earn a D-I berth.
In response to the tragic death of Ms. Scott, Mr. Lynn may recall writing an editorial regarding my walk from Otter Valley Union High School in Brandon to Montpelier some 16 years ago, seeking support against bullying in that school. My son was tormented, threatened, terrorized and afraid for his life. He, too, sought help from teachers and other school authorities.
