MIDDLEBURY — A steering committee charged with planning new town office and recreation buildings in Middlebury is recommending that the town postpone its vote on the projects from December to next March.
VERGENNES — Vergennes Union High School officials confirmed this week that the VUHS board next Monday will almost certainly call for a Dec. 3 vote on a bond proposal that would fund fixes for problems in the school’s auditorium, kitchen and cafeteria.
VUHS board and building committee member Kurt Haigis and Addison Northwest Supervisory Union business manager Kathy Cannon said the board is leaning toward warning a bond “in the ballpark” of $2.2 million.
MIDDLEBURY — The team of around 100 Middlebury College students who toiled for two years to conceive and construct a super-efficient, solar-powered home recently wrapped up an international design competition by earning a prominent finish vs. 20 teams — most from schools that are bigger and with more engineering-focused curricula.
Team Middlebury finished eighth at the U.S. Department of Energy’s sixth biennial Solar Decathlon; winners were announced Oct. 11 at a ceremony in Irvine, Calif.
MIDDLEBURY — A majority of the Addison Central Supervisory Union board on Wednesday endorsed a new assessment structure for central office expenses that is expected to slightly increase education property taxes for Middlebury residents while slightly decreasing them for the other six communities in the district.
MIDDLEBURY — Allison Stanger, a professor of international politics and economics at Middlebury College, will serve as Middlebury’s newest representative on the UD-3 school board.
Stanger takes a spot on the board most recently held by Quinn Mecham, who stepped down this past summer when he relocated with his family to Utah. It’s the role of the ID-4 board — which governs Mary Hogan Elementary School — to appoint replacements for any Middlebury vacancies on the UD-3 board, which represents Middlebury Union middle and high schools.
MIDDLEBURY — The 22nd annual Empty Bowl Dinner fundraiser will take place Saturday, Nov. 9, at the United Methodist Church in Middlebury. Doors open at 6 p.m. and dinner is served at 6:15.
The Empty Bowl Dinner benefits both HOPE and CVOEO, the two local food shelves that work hard to alleviate the problem of local hunger. With ever-increasing cuts to state and federal funds available to these important organizations, fundraising at the community level becomes more and more important.
