Ferrisburgh school offered two acres, board passes offer to selectmen

FERRISBURGH — The Ferrisburgh Central School board on Thursday left open the door to buying a 2-acre parcel next to the school, but decided first to approach the selectboard on this Tuesday to see if the town is interested in the land, which school board members said could be used as parking for the nearby town office building and community center.

However, on Friday morning selectboard chairwoman Loretta Lawrence said the town already has a plan in place to expand the limited onsite parking for its Route 7 building.

Central school in Ferrisburgh entertains a solar array plan

FERRISBURGH — At their Thursday meeting, the Ferrisburgh Central School board heard a proposal for a roughly 120-kilowatt solar array that would produce about the same amount of electricity needed to power FCS for a year.

Jon Budreski of Waterbury’s SunCommon outlined an arrangement for a solar array that would not provide electricity directly to the school, but through net-metering would earn FCS a credit of about $2,500 a year on its power bill.

Returning student learns the value of a high school diploma

LEICESTER — Daryle Stone didn’t have much use for school — or at least that’s what he thought 14 years ago as an Otter Valley Union High School freshman.

He wasn’t learning things as easily as his classmates, some of whom teased him for being “slow.”

“I’m the type of person if you made fun of me, there was a confrontation,” Stone, now 28,  recalled.

Hancock Town Pride committee to discuss new town green

HANCOCK — The Hancock Town Pride Committee recently received a $2,500 grant from the Vermont Community Foundation’s Small and Inspiring grant program. The grant will help further the Hancock Town Pride’s mission of fostering community spirit, beautifying the town and offering events and activities by creating the Hancock town green. The green will be located on Route 100 in front of the Hancock Fire Station.

Women arrested for sale of heroin in Leicester

ADDISON COUNTY — The Vergennes Police Department, in joint operations with the Bristol Police Department, recently conducted undercover purchases of heroin from two women in Addison County.

Both women — Jolee A. Ladd, 39, and Carrie A. Chappell, 43, — on May 22 were subsequently arrested during the execution of a search warrant by the Vergennes, Bristol and Vermont State police and the Addison County Sheriff’s Department at their home at 1454 Fern Lake Road in Leicester.

Veysey wins a car in annual Lions Club raffle

VERGENNES — Following the Memorial Day festivities, the Vergennes Lions Club drew the winners’ tickets for their 2013 Vehicle Raffle. The winner of the grand price, a Chrysler PT Cruiser convertible, was Katherine Veysey of Addison. The second-prize winner of the Cloud Nine Fishing Charter was Audrey Tucker of Vergennes, and the third-prize winner of the stay at River’s Edge Campground was Lynette Delisle of Vergennes.
