VERGENNES — Vermont Gas Systems intends to bring natural gas service to all Vergennes through its new Addison County pipeline by the end of 2016, company representatives told the city council last week.

VERGENNES — Towns’ ownership of their schools and surrounding land has concerned residents each time Addison Northwest Supervisory Union has voted on unification, most recently in 2010, and the upcoming decision on March 1 is no exception.

In the past decade, a central question in some residents’ minds has been reluctance to allow control and ownership of their schools to be transferred to a single board with representatives from all five ANwSU towns, as will be the case in ANwSU if its member towns vote yes next month.

MIDDLEBURY — The town of Middlebury has hired a consultant to devise a state-of-the-art broadband telecommunications system that would serve the seven towns within the Addison Central Supervisory Union and — organizers hope — serve as a powerful catalyst for economic development.

Vergennes dealing with three issues

Posted on February 15, 2016 |
By Andy Kirkaldy

VERGENNES — In Vergennes, City Manager Mel Hawley said officials want to tie up three loose ends before school property is transferred to a new unified union under one-board control, something that would happen on July 1, 2017, if Addison Northwest Supervisory Union unification passes on March 1.

One loose end Hawley recently uncovered while researching deeds. The city’s Green Street fire station was once the Vergennes High School gym, and the city bought it for that purpose from the former Vergennes ID School District per a 1957 citywide vote.

FERRISBURH — In Ferrisburgh, a key issue as the March 1 Addison Northwest Supervisory Union unification vote approaches is the ongoing use of the school property by community recreation programs.

Those include youth soccer, baseball and softball teams, and the addition in recent years of a skating rink used by students and residents alike, to which the town’s recreation committee plans to add a concrete pad with basketball hoops and a roof.
