EAGLES VS. OTTERS
This week’s writer is Deb Markowitz, secretary of the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources.
Last month, I met with a group of high school students who were thinking about what they could do in their schools and communities to help combat climate change. One of them asked whether what we do in Vermont to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions matters since climate change is a problem on a global scale. This caused another student to shout out the Mahatma Gandhi adage that we must “be the change we want to see in the world.”
VERMONT — Middlebury Union High School junior football player Austin Robinson is one of three Vermont Sports Media Association athlete of the month winners for November as chosen in statewide balloting of VSMA members.
MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury College women’s basketball team pulled away early in the second half on Sunday for a 56-44 win over visiting Oberlin. The 3-4 Panthers led 24-22 at intermission and opened the second half with a 12-2 run.

STARKSBORO — Jeffrey Keeney, the Starksboro man who was having trouble with the Vermont Health Connect website and the focus of an article in our Dec. 19 issue, told the Independent this week that he completed the application for himself and his family Dec. 24. Keeney said a VHC representative told him that his family’s insurance should begin on time on Jan. 1.
