BRISTOL — After approving preliminary $3.19 million plans to construct a new firehouse, the Bristol selectboard will hold a series of public information meetings later this month. Officials have also released estimates on the property tax impact of approving the project.
LINCOLN — The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) announced that construction was beginning the week of June 8 to replace the Lincoln TH 1 Bridge 19 located over the New Haven River. The bridge is located on East River Road about one-half mile south of TH 1 and Gove Hill Road.
MIDDLEBURY — Edgewater Gallery in Middlebury presents a stunning exhibition for June: “Art en Route,” by up-and-coming artist Missy Dunaway, with highlighted works from local artist Nick Mayer.
MONTPELIER — Gov. Peter Shumlin says he decided to stand down in 2016 because he “didn’t have the fire in the belly for a fourth term.”
Shumlin made the remark on WDEV’s “The Mark Johnson Show” on Tuesday in a 34-minute interview.
ADDISON COUNTY — A Vergennes man died during the evening of Tuesday, June 2, after driving a vehicle off Route 7 in Ferrisburgh, according to Vermont State Police.
Authorities identified the deceased as Dana S. Phillips, 55.
MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police on June 4 responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Magic Wok Restaurant on Route 7 South.
Police learned however that it had not been a robbery, but rather a burglary that had occurred sometime the previous night. Police reported an “undetermined amount of cash” had been taken from the cash register.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
VERGENNES — Between June 1 and 7, Vergennes police dealt with a variety of cases, including helping a game warden and Vermont State Police, handling a number of animal complaints, and responding to two vandalism incidents.
In those seven days, Vergennes police:
• On June 1 received a tip from another agency that a resident might be involved with illegal drugs.
• On June 1 called the animal control officer to handle a dog reported to be running loose on School Street.
