MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police checked the welfare of a Seymour Street resident who was having mental health issues on Feb. 26. Police said the resident was suicidal and not answering her telephone or the door at her residence.

Officers connected with the female, who they said was intoxicated and suicidal. Authorities took her to the Porter Hospital Emergency Department, where she was admitted for a psychiatric evaluation.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Investigated a report of someone driving erratically on Route 7 South on Feb. 24.

•  Were told that a drunken man had been “wigging out” in the John Graham Court housing development on Feb. 24. Police were unable to locate such a man.

•  Responded to a  report of a woman “making a scene” in McDonald’s Restaurant on Court Street on Feb. 24. Police said the woman had left upon their arrival.

•  Interviewed two women who reported their cars had been vandalized while parked on Seymour Street near the Middlebury Fire Department headquarters on Feb. 25. Anyone with information on this case should contact Middlebury police Officer Emilio at 388-3191.

•  Calmed two motorists who had been arguing about a traffic incident on North Pleasant Street on Feb. 25.

•  Responded to a report of a baby being kidnapped from Porter Hospital on Feb. 25. Police quickly learned that hospital staff was conducting a training drill in a potential kidnap scenario.

•  Inspected some video of a potential shoplifter at a Court Street store on Feb. 26.

•  Were informed of an alleged phone scam targeting a Buttolph Drive resident on Feb. 26. Police said the caller asked the resident for a checking account number.

•  Assisted Vermont State Police in screening a potential drunk driver who had been stopped on South Street on Feb. 26.

•  Investigated what ended up being a false report about there being some drug paraphernalia under the footbridge spanning the Otter Creek near the falls on Feb. 27.

•  Responded to a report of a local woman being in violation of a temporary restraining order on Feb. 27. Police said the state’s attorney’s office has declined to prosecute the matter.

•  Responded to a verbal dispute at a South Village Green residence on Feb. 27. Police said a male left the residence.

•  Assisted Middlebury rescue officials with an intoxicated male patient in the Water Street area on Feb. 27.

•  Received a report that a female patient had left Porter Hospital wearing only a hospital gown on Feb. 28. Police said the woman was returned to the hospital.

•  Were informed that someone had left a “vicious dog” in a parked car on Court Street Extension on Feb. 28.

•  Confiscated and destroyed a marijuana pipe that had been in the possession of a Champlain Valley Academy student in Catamount Park on Feb. 28. Police said the school will pursue disciplinary action against the student.

•  Got counseling assistance for a woman on Route 7 North who was working through issues related to a death on March 1.

•  Found a credit card in the Court Square area and returned it to its owner on March 1.

•  Responded to a report of a verbal dispute between a boyfriend and girlfriend on Case Street on March 2.

•  Assisted Middlebury College Public Safety with an intoxicated female student on March 2.
