VERGENNES — Vergennes police between July 9 and 16 dealt with incidents that included driving with suspended licenses (DLS), reports of erratic driving, an alleged assault, a missing persons report, and threatening behavior.

In the course of the week police also four times helped motorists locked out of their vehicles, on Hillside Drive, East Street and Monkton Road and in the Shaw’s Supermarket parking lot.

During those seven days, Vergennes police:

On July 9:

•  Helped the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad on Walker Avenue.

•  Served an anti-stalking order to a Bristol resident on behalf of a Vergennes resident.

On July 10:

•  Helped Vermont State Police by tracking down a vehicle reported as being operated erratically on Hawkins and Little Chicago roads in Ferrisburgh. Police said they saw the car, which pulled a quick U-turn and took off. Police tracked down the car, which they said was registered to a driver with a suspended license, at a home, but could not find the driver, and no citations were issued.

•  Helped state police by searching an Addison home in which the homeowner had reported hearing an intruder; no one was found.

•  Issued a citation to a United Technologies employee on behalf of Milton police.

•  Took a report of a minor accident in the Shaw’s parking lot.

•  Were told that Kinney Drugs had failed to fulfill a woman’s prescription after she had paid for it, a report that police said was not true, calling the complainant confused.

•  Checked the welfare of a Monkton Road resident, who was fine.

On July 11:

•  Backed up state police at an argument on Route 7 in New Haven.

•  Were told by a resident that a flyer advertising an estate sale appeared to be fraudulent; police passed the case on to state police because the sale was in Ferrisburgh.

•  Determined the content of an email from a tenant to a landlord was a civil issue.

•  Stopped a car in Ferrisburgh that was reported to be operated erratically as it was driven northbound; police found no problem.

On July 12:

•  Accepted from a citizen a cell phone found on the city green and contacted its owner to pick it up.

•  Took a report from a South Water Street resident that two teens were missing; the resident called back to say they were found.

•  Helped Vermont State Police with a pursuit; police said a suspect ditched a car along Route 7 in New Haven and fled successfully on foot.

•  At a School Street traffic stop cited Amanda Nichols, 26, of Vergennes for criminal DLS.

•  Dealt with a minor two-car accident on Main Street.

On July 13:

•  Calmed an elderly resident of a North Street care facility and helped persuade him to accept a ride to Porter Hospital.

•  Calmed a neighbor dispute on South Maple Street.

•  At a Panton Road motorcycle stop for speeding cited Randall Reynolds, 25, of Pittsford for criminal DLS and careless and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

On July 14 heard from a Vergennes resident who said a Middlebury resident had threatened him with a knife while in Middlebury. Vergennes police advised the Vergennes man to contact police in Middlebury.

On July 15:

•  Investigated an alleged assault at Northlands Job Corps and determined neither student involved should be cited; police said one student was set to be dismissed from the program.

•  Looked into a Short Street resident’s threatening behavior; police said they worked with the man’s girlfriend to successfully persuade him to seek help from the Counseling Service of Addison County at Porter Hospital.

•  Determined to be unfounded a concern that a counterfeit bill had been passed at a Main Street business.
