MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police investigated a burglary at the Valley Bible Church on East Main Street on May 20.

Police said the culprit(s) forced their way into the church and stole a laptop and an unspecified amount of cash.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Middlebury police at 388-3191.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Investigated a report of bear sightings in the Sugarwood Court area on May 14. Middlebury police earlier had warned citizens that a mother bear and three cubs were living on Chipman Hill and east into Means Woods near Sugarwood, and humans should steer clear of the animals if they see them.

•  Cited Eric Quesnel, 43, of Middlebury for unlawful trespass on May 14 after he entered the Subway Restaurant on Court Street while there was an active no-trespass order against him.

•  Assisted on May 15 with a civil dispute between a Jackson Lane couple who had broken up over possession of a car.

•  Received a report on May 15 that someone had broken into the vacuum cleaner machine at the Creek Road Carwash in order to steal quarters. The matter is still under investigation.

•  Responded to a report of a man allegedly breaking a window of a Route 7 home where his ex-girlfriend was staying on May 15.

•  Cautioned a Middlebury Union High School student on May 15 to not wear a mask while walking to school.

•  Got counseling for a Jayne Court resident who was threatening self-harm on May 15.

•  Cited Stephan Belanger, 24, of Middlebury for driving a motorcycle with a criminally suspended license on Main Street on May 16.

•  Helped Middlebury Regional EMS with an unconscious child on Mary Hogan Drive on May 16.

•  Arrested Brandon R. Yandow, 21, of Middlebury on an outstanding warrant on Court Street on May 16. Police added Yandow will also be charged for violating the conditions of his release.

•  Told an Evergreen Lane resident to turn down their loud music following a complaint on May 16.

•  Assisted Vermont State Police on a report of an ongoing burglary at an occupied home on James Road in Cornwall on May 16.

•  Responded to a domestic disturbance at a Seymour Street residence on May 17.

•  Received a report about a man refusing to leave the Porter Hospital Emergency Department on May 17. Police asked the man to leave, and he did.

•  Assisted Vermont State Police on James Road in Cornwall on May 17 in response to residents who heard noises in their basement on May 17.

•  Helped Middlebury Regional EMS officials with an unresponsive, drunken man at a Seymour Street residence on May 17. Police said the man was taken to Porter Hospital for observation.

•  Received a report of cows damaging lawns and gardens at multiple properties on Case Street on May 18.

•  Served a temporary restraining order on a local man in the Bakery Lane area on May 18.

•  Investigated a motorcycle crash on Quarry Road on May 18. Police said the driver sustained minor injuries.

•  Responded to a burglary at the Stone Leaf Tea House in the Marble Works shopping complex on May 19. Police said someone forced their way into the business and stole some cash. The matter remains under investigation.

•  Found three men walking in the middle of Shannon Street carrying a missing road sign on May 19. Police stood by while the men returned the sign to where they had found it.

•  Responded, with Middlebury Regional EMS, to a report of a drunken woman on Cross Street on May 19. Police said the woman was taken to Porter Hospital.

•  Responded on May 20 to a complaint about an ex-caregiver allegedly harassing the local family for which she worked.

•  Received a report about a drunken man trying to get into a Court Street residence on May 20. Police said the man was trying to see his girlfriend and left the area.

•  Responded to a reported burglary at Middlebury Scrap Metal on Route 7 South on May 21. Police said the culprit(s) forced their way in to steal and unspecified amount of cash.
