VERGENNES — Vergennes police on Sunday cited a Ferrisburgh man not far from his Satterly Road home for driving under the influence of alcohol.

City police allege that they pulled over a vehicle driven by Lyn Billings, 53, because it failed to stay in its lane and Billings failed to use a turn signal when making a turn. They stopped the vehicle not far from the intersection of Routes 7 and 22A.

Vergennes police allege that Billings’ blood-alcohol level tested at 0.289, more than three-and-a-half times the legal limit for driving of 0.08.

In other incidents between Feb. 26 and March 11, Vergennes police:

On Feb. 26:

•  Took a report of a minor accident in the Kinney Drugs parking lot.

•  Spoke with a man they saw swaying and drinking something from a dark bottle while walking on a downtown sidewalk. The man said he had health issues that caused him to walk unsteadily. Two days later they saw him again walking with difficulty and also yelling and screaming, and this time they persuaded him to come with them to the station and meet with the Counseling Service of Addison County. The man was taken to the UVM Medical Center for counseling and observation.

On Feb. 27:

•  Helped the FBI by handing over a police report.

•  Stood by while a car was repossessed on South Maple Street.

•  Checked a report of a trailer blocking access to a Main Street apartment building parking lot and determined there was no problem.

•  Following a complaint told a woman that she had to comply with the terms of a child custody court order.

On Feb. 28 were advised by New Hampshire probation and parole personnel that they had a client moving into Valley Vista.

On March 1:

•  Took a homeless woman from the City Limits bar to a Burlington shelter.

•  Helped a motorist get into a locked vehicle on Monkton Road.

•  Took a report of a minor accident in the Shaw’s Supermarket parking lot.

•  Dealt with students drinking at the Northlands Job Corps; police cited Cory Abbate, 25, of Newington, Conn., for furnishing alcohol to minors and issued court diversion paperwork to four minors.

On March 2:

•  Mentored a Vergennes Union High School student.

•  Backed up Vermont State Police at a reported assault at the Village Tavern in Ferrisburgh; both men were gone when police arrived.

On March 3:

•  Told a woman chasing a man down the middle of South Water Street to stay out of the road; they gave the man the same warning.

•  Investigated an incident after dark in which two youths shot a pellet gun out of a Cataract Place residence, allegedly hitting a propane tank and coming near to a pedestrian. Police ticketed one youth for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia and said a citation for reckless endangerment remains possible.

On March 4:

•  Took a man they found walking shirtless and shoeless in the intersection of Main and North streets to the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility to sober up.

•  Took a report that a man had lost debit and ID cards.

•  Took a report of a minor accident in the Shaw’s Supermarket parking lot.

On March 5 told two youths arguing online about video games to knock it off.

On March 6:

•  Told the roommate of a woman moving out of an apartment not to throw away any of the woman’s belongings.

•  Helped Vermont State Police search a car near Meigs Road.

On March 7:

•  Helped state police by dealing with a two-car accident at the intersection of Route 7 and Monkton Road.

•  Helped Vergennes Union Elementary School personnel deal with a behavioral issue.

On March 8:

•  Ticketed and towed a car left on a city street in violation of the Vergennes wintertime overnight parking ban.

•  Dealt with vandalism to a car at a Main Street apartment building; police said lotion was smeared on its windshield, mirrors and driver-side window.

•  Helped the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad with a drunken male, who was taken to Porter Hospital after his blood alcohol content tested at 0.439; as a matter of comparison, that is more than five times the legal blood alcohol limit for driving.

•  Ticketed a Main Street apartment resident for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia and notified the Department for Children and Families, alleging the resident smoked in the apartment with her 1-year-old child present.

On March 9:

•  Ticketed and towed a car left on a city street in violation of the Vergennes wintertime overnight parking ban.

•  Searched unsuccessfully for dogs that allegedly attacked a man and his dog on Main Street.

On March 10:

•Went to McKnight Lane in Waltham to check a report of a man looking in a woman’s door; police said they found no one or any indication that someone had been outside the home.

•  Went to Booth Woods to confirm an untimely death was not the result of foul play.

On March 11 helped VARS at a South Water Street call.
