BRISTOL — A Bristol man is due in court this month to answer drunk driving charges that arose after police stopped his car during a town-contracted patrol.

On Saturday, March 10, at approximately 6:17 p.m. Bristol police arrested Ryan Adam Cousino, 32, for driving under the influence of alcohol. Police said Cousino’s blood alcohol concentration was more than twice the legal limit, though they didn’t give an exact number.

An officer on a town-contracted patrol stopped Cousino’s vehicle after observing speed and lane violations. Cousino was released with a citation to appear in Addison Superior Court, Criminal Division, on March 26.

Between March 5 and March 11, Bristol police completed 21 foot and car patrols at various locations, namely on Mountain Street, Main Street and surrounding areas including near Bristol Elementary School, and at other locations around town, with one of the patrols done under contract from the town. Officers also completed four hours and 55 minutes of directed patrol and traffic enforcement in the police district and the town under a contract funded by Vermont Governor’s Highway Safety Program.

During that same week, officers checked security at Mount Abraham Union High School six times.

In other recent activity, Bristol police:

•  On March 5 an officer completed updated field training.

•  On March 5 received from district residents a request for house checks.

•  On March 6 investigated the report of an assault in the district.

•  On March 6 analyzed an electronic device for another law enforcement agency conducting an active investigation.

•  On March 6 at 10:35 p.m. investigated a vehicle collision in a parking lot and determined it did not rise to the level of a reportable crash.

•  On March 7 checked the welfare of another agency that was not receiving communications from dispatch and determined the agency had experienced radio trouble.

•  On March 7 during a town-contracted traffic patrol conducted a consented search and recovered a small amount of marijuana.

•  On March 7 logged a property-watch case.

•  On March 8 at 12:21 a.m. arranged to have towed a vehicle in violation of the winter parking ban whose owner could not be located.

•  On March 8 at 1:59 a.m. assisted Vermont State Police with an investigation.

•  On March 8 interviewed a juvenile for an ongoing investigation.

•  On March 8 ordered a loose dog be sent to the pound. The dog was later returned to the owner upon completion of town paperwork.

•  On March 9 an officer who is a member of the Vermont Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force executed a search warrant in New Haven.

•  On March 10 investigated the report of a vehicle idling for an extended period of time. The driver had been using the phone.

•  On March 10 assisted Vermont State Police, Bristol Rescue Squad and Bristol Fire Department with a single-vehicle crash on Burpee Road involving injuries and vehicle entrapment.

•  On March 11 an officer who is a member of the Vermont Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force opened an investigation into child exploitation.

•  On March 11 verified for a district resident a vehicle identification number.

•  On March 11 at 3:30 p.m. investigated a complaint regarding unwanted text messages. The investigation is ongoing.
