BRISTOL — On July 14, Bristol police arrested Shawn Mathieu, 32, of Colchester following a criminal investigation. Police charged Mathieu with forgery and with using “false pretenses or tokens” for signing a stolen credit card and using it at two locations in Bristol.

On July 10, Bristol police were contacted by a Chittenden County resident who reported their wallet had been stolen on July 4. The victim reported being notified by the issuing bank that one of the cards from the wallet had just been used at two locations in Bristol.

The officer immediately obtained surveillance footage from a Bristol business that identified Mathieu as the user of the stolen credit card in the amount of $112. The receipt was obtained and showed Mathieu had unlawfully signed for the transaction. The officer made contact with Mathieu. And on July 14, Mathieu turned himself in to the Bristol Police Department.

Police recovered the stolen credit card from Mathieu, processed him and released him with a citation to appear in the criminal division of Addison Superior Court to answer the charges on Sept. 11.
