ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police cited Addison County men for a second offense of driving under the influence in three separate incidents last week. Two of the incidents also involved speeding.

In the first case, troopers on May 23 at 7:10 p.m. saw a motorcycle traveling southbound on Route 7 in New Haven exceeding the posted 50 mph speed limit. They stopped the bike and said they smelled an odor of intoxicants emitting from driver Sean Devoid, 35, of Middlebury. Police allege that Devoid had been drinking alcoholic beverages prior to the stop. They cited him for DUI, second offense, and speeding.

In the next incident, state police went to a home in Rutland on a report of a verbal dispute between two people on May 26 at 5:20 a.m. Troopers spoke with Jason Schofield, 34, of Hancock, who he was arguing with his girlfriend after just driving himself and his girlfriend to Rutland from Burlington. Police said Schofield displayed signs of impairment and, after screening him, cited Schofield for DUI, second offense.

The next day, at 2:38 p.m., troopers stopped a vehicle they said was speeding on Route 7 north of New Haven Junction. At the end of this incident police cited Michael McCleaf, 53, of Middlebury for speeding and DUI, second or subsequent offense. Police report that McCleaf was driving 87 mph (according to radar) in a 50 mph zone.

In one other incident last week, troopers cited a different man for DUI, first offense.

State police stopped a vehicle on Panton Road in Panton 1 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, and ended up citing the driver, Jason Deering, 34, of Port Henry, N.Y., for DUI.

Troopers gave not indication of how drunk they thought these drivers were at the time of their citation. Under the direction of Public Safety Commissioner Tom Anderson, Vermont State Police recently decided that troopers would not report in press releases the results of preliminary blood alcohol content tests they performed on the public’s behalf. Instead, the results of the drunk driving tests won’t be available to the public until the person cited is arraigned on charges, which is often weeks after the citation is issued.

In two other recent activity, Vermont State Police cited county residents for driving with criminally suspended licenses.

Police report that they had seen Marlena Laws, 24, of Vergennes was seen driving on a public highway on six different occasions recently. After seeing her on Route 116 in Bristol, troopers cited her for the offense on May 19.

Separately, on May 24 state police stopped a car driven by 22-year-old Joshua Thomas of Starksboro for allegedly driving too fast on Interstate 89 in South Burlington and ended up citing him for driving with a criminally suspended license.

In other reported incidents, troopers:

•  On May 26 at approximately 7:33 p.m. cited Garrett Allaire, 20, of Essex for speeding after he was clocked at 88 mph in a posted 50 mph speed limit zone on Route 7 near Town Hill Road in New Haven.

•  On May 27 at approximately 9:20 a.m. cited Yehenew Mengistu, 28, of Shelburne for speeding after he allegedly drove 81 mph in a 50 mph zone on Route 22A in Addison.

•  On Monday, May 29, at 12:55 p.m. closed Route 125 from the Middlebury town line west into Cornwall due to a motor vehicle crash. The road was closed for an unspecified amount of time.
