VERGENNES — Late night traffic duty for the Vergennes police this past Friday and Saturday resulted in multiple charges for two drivers, including a citation for driving under the influence.

In the early morning hours of Saturday, Jan. 14, city police pulled over a car for failing to stop before entering Route 7 from New Haven Road. Police said they detected alcohol on the breath of the driver, Dustin A. Wright, 27, of New Haven, and allege that his evidentiary testing showed a blood-alcohol content of 0.115; the legal limit for driving in Vermont is 0.08. They cited him for DUI and failure to honor a stop sign.

Shortly before, late on Friday, city police pulled over a car driven by Chrystina B. Hulst, 39, of Salisbury for failing to stop at a South Maple Street stop sign. Police cited Hulst for driving with a criminally suspended license and, after finding a marijuana pipe in her car, ticketed her for possession of drug paraphernalia.

In other action between Jan. 9 and 15, Vergennes police:

•  On Jan. 9 responded to a minor two-car crash on Main Street.

•  On Jan. 9 helped the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad at a Main Street residence.

•  On Jan. 10 sent the department Drug Recognition Expert to help Vermont State Police at their New Haven barracks; he determined a suspect had operated a vehicle while impaired.

•  On Jan. 11 referred a fraud complaint to the attorney general’s office; police said a man posing as a city council member called the city clerk’s office and tried to have city funds transferred into a bank account. The clerk recognized the call as fraudulent and notified police.

•  On Jan. 11 sent a disorderly conduct case to the state’s attorney’s office for possible prosecution: A woman reported her boyfriend’s ex-wife was harassing her at work via letters and social media.

•  On Jan. 11 informed state police that a Ripton resident called them and said items stolen from a home there might be in the Vergennes area.

•  On Jan. 11 helped out Middlebury police in a case on Seymour Street in which two officers were assaulted (see Middlebury Log).

•  On Jan. 12 helped a motorist get into a locked car in the Agency of Transportation’s Ferrisburgh park-and-ride lot.

•  On Jan. 13 looked into an apparent attempted burglary at a Macdonough Drive home; police said a window was damaged.

•  On Jan. 13 counseled a woman who was having difficulty getting visitation rights with her granddaughter in Vergennes.

•  On Jan. 13 ordered a commercial truck out of service after a Main Street stop and issued tickets because its driver did not have a medical card, its plates were not assigned to the trailer, the trailer’s registration had expired, and the truck’s DOT number was not displayed.
