ADDISON COUNTY — On Christmas morning, Vermont State Police went to the scene of a two-vehicle crash in North Ferrisburgh in which a Cornwall woman was trapped in her car.

Troopers rushed to the intersection of Route 7 and Old Hollow Road at around 10:40 a.m. this past Sunday. They report that a Ford F-150 pickup driven by Joel Royer, 63, of Millerton, Pa., was traveling northbound on Route 7 at approximately the same time a 2003 Saturn Ion driven by Heather Workman, 28, of Cornwall was traveling westbound on Old Hollow Road.

Police said that Workman attempted to cross the intersection and misjudged the spacing between the pickup and other vehicles and as a result Royer’s F-150 collided with the driver’s side of Workman’s Saturn.

Workman was transported to the UVM Medical Center for treatment of several broken bones. Her car was considered a total loss. Royer and a passenger in his truck were treated and released on scene.

Vermont State Police were assisted on scene by the Ferrisburgh Fire Department and Vergennes Area Rescue Squad.

This investigation is ongoing, anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact the VSP’s New Haven barracks at (802) 388-4919. Information can also be submitted anonymously online at www.vtips.info or by texting “CRIMES” (274637) to Keyword: VTIPS.

Road conditions were dry on Sunday, but snowy weather and slippery road conditions contributed to some traffic accidents around the county on the morning of Dec. 17, according to Vermont State Police.

At 8:06 a.m. that Saturday, troopers responded to single-vehicle crash involving a utility pole on Route 17 near the Champlain Marina in Addison. Police report that Mark Huff, 45, of Colchester lost control of the 2004 Dodge truck he was driving on the slippery road, the truck left the roadway and it struck a utility pole guide wire; the top portion of the pole broke and required replacement.

Green Mountain Power was notified to replace the pole.

Huff was not injured and drove his truck from the scene.

Then at 8:30 a.m. state police rushed to a report of a one-car crash on Monkton Road in Ferrisburgh. Police said a 17-year-old Panton resident was driving a 2003 Subaru Forester westbound when he lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a curve and down grade near the Dean Road intersection. The Subaru struck the guardrail on the south side of the roadway, ricocheted off the guardrail then exited the north side of the road, where the vehicle traveled down an embankment and came to rest in the woods. The driver was not injured.

A few hours later, at around the same place on Monkton Road, state police said that Darnell Alford, 22, of Wilkes Barre, Pa., was driving a 2001 Toyota Camry eastbound when he came upon a vehicle stopped in the roadway. Alford applied his brakes but began to slide. To avoid the collision, Alford drove into a culvert, striking a tree and damaging his vehicle and rendering the Camry inoperable. Neither Alford nor any of his four passengers were injured as a result of the crash.

At around 12:30 p.m. that afternoon, troopers went back to Addison to a report of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Old Stonehouse Road and Route 125. Police learned that a 2015 Ford truck driven by 20-year-old Ethan Gevry of Addison struck a 2017 Subaru Forester operated by 23-year-old Jacqueline Cid of Burlington as Gevry was trying to enter 125 from Old Stonehouse Road.

No one was injured and Gevry drove his truck from the scene, but Cid’s Subaru sustained disabling damage and was towed.

Police issued Gevry a ticket for failing to yield.

In other recent activity, Vermont State Police:

•  On Dec. 15 were notified of a theft of a wallet. On the same date, the victim learned someone had fraudulently used her credit card for several purchases at several different locations. Following investigation, security camera footage was obtained from all locations and the offender was identified as Jason Kimball, 34, of Middlebury. On Dec. 19 Kimball came to the New Haven state police barracks, where he was cited for credit card fraud, possession of stolen property and giving false information to a law enforcement officer; and he fingerprinted and photographed.

•  On Dec. 15 received a complaint from an 80-year-old Ripton man that someone had entered his garage that afternoon and stole three chainsaws, a router with a router table, a propane heater, and two trail cameras. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Vermont State Police.

•  On Dec. 17 at approximately 8:18 p.m. went to Route 7 home in Leicester in response to the report of a physical altercation. While en-route, police were told that 19-year-old Wesley Harpe of Leicester had assaulted 23-year-old Keith Casey of Castleton inside the residence. Casey was able to leave the scene and get to a safe location to wait for police and medical personnel to respond. Police took Harpe into custody, cited him for aggravated assault and unlawful restraint, and lodged him at the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility.

•  On Dec. 18 at 2:30 p.m. responded, with the Orwell Fire Department and Middlebury Regional EMS, to the intersection of Routes 22A and 73 in Orwell for a two-car crash with injuries. Police report that Anna Smith, 59, of New Haven, was driving a 2015 Subaru Impreza eastbound on Route 73 and failed to yield the right of way to a 2013 Toyota Rav 4 that was driven northbound on Route 22A by Jennifer Pelliccone, 31, of South Burlington. The Rav 4 collided with the Impreza in the northbound lane of 22A, police said. Pelliccone was uninjured; Smith was transported to Porter Hospital as a precaution for minor bruising. Police determined that Smith was driving under the influence of medication and cited her for DUI. Route 73 was closed to Eastbound traffic for about an hour.

•  On Dec. 21 at 10:25 p.m., while conducting a safety/sobriety checkpoint on Plank Road in New Haven, noticed a vehicle turn around after seeing the checkpoint. State police stopped the car and ended up citing Timothy Taylor, 50, of Bristol for driving with a criminally suspended license and for violation of conditions of release.

•  On Dec. 22 at approximately 9:30 a.m. looked into the report of a one-car crash Route 74 near Tottingham Road in Shoreham. Police determined that the driver, identified as 46-year-old Angel Tracey of Vergennes, had been traveling eastbound on a snow-covered Route 74 towards Middlebury at approximately 20 mph, when she attempted to navigate a slight left curve and the 1998 Ford Explorer lost traction and began sliding off the slippery roadway. After leaving the roadway the Explorer overturned, and slid down an embankment. As a precaution the operator and a passenger were transported to Porter Hospital for evaluation.

•  On Dec. 23 responded to a report of a vehicle off Panton Road in Panton. Driver DeVaughn Arno, 39, of Mineville, N.Y., told state police she had gotten stuck in a pull off and while attempting to get the vehicle unstuck, the vehicle slid into the ditch. Arno submitted to Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and showed signs of impairment. A preliminary breath test showed a breath alcohol content of 0.149 percent; the legal limit is 0.08. The trooper cited Arno for driving under the influence of alcohol.
