The Addison Independent is proud to publish the Students of the Week from area High Schools each week. The students are chosen by teachers and administration from each school who would like to recognize their exceptional engagement in the high schools they attend.

MUHS STUDENT OF THE WEEK

It is with Tiger pride that Middlebury Union High School recognizes Christopher Grier as its Student of the Week. Chris is the son of Christina and Keith Grier; he has a brother, Colin, who is in 10th grade at MUHS. The family lives in Bridport.

Chris has achieved High Honors or Honors throughout high school. He is a member of both the National Technical Honor Society and National Honor Society, and is vice president of the latter. Chris was recognized with a Presidential Award for Academic Excellence in 10th grade and received the Rensselaer Medal last year. He was also selected to attend both Boys’ State and the Governor’s Institute for Engineering.

Chris has completed or is currently taking AP Calculus, Environmental Science, Statistics, and U.S. and World History. He is presently doing an independent study in multivariable calculus.

Despite his considerable academic accomplishments, Chris may be best known in the community for his stalwart two-way line play with the MUHS Tigers football team. He was one of the captains of this year’s very successful team. Chris also flexes his muscles and mind in track. His javelin throwing placed him second in the state meet last spring. We’re betting his attention to fitness and physics will fling him to first this year.

A Peer Leader at MUHS this year, Chris has also volunteered with United Way. The past two falls have found him helping out with future Tigers as a flag football referee. Hobbies for Chris include playing Shadowrun tabletop role play games, guitar and board games.

Relax.” That’s Chris’ personal philosophy in a word. Expanded, that means for Chris that unless the literal end of the world is nigh, it’s not ending despite apparent collapse in your vicinity. Chris plans to study engineering, and he has two additional factors to aid in relaxation: acceptances at both Rensselaer and Worcester polytechnic institutes.

Chris, whether you choose the school in New York or in the Bay State, we know you’ll do well. And whichever your choice, we wish you the very best.

VUHS STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Vergennes Union High School is pleased to recognize Jaymee Fulcher as its Student of the Week. Jaymee lives in Vergennes with her mom, Michelle Jonas. Jaymee has five siblings, four of whom live in England. Her youngest sister, Meeya, is in fourth grade at VUES.

Jaymee earned high honors every semester of her high school career. Last year she was offered a scholarship for academic excellence at Elmira College. Jaymee took honors European History this year.

Outside of the classroom, Jaymee is a member of the softball team. She played on the soccer team sophomore and junior year. For the past few months she has been employed by New England Ambulance Billing Inc.

Jaymee gives this piece of advice to other VUHS students: “High school has taught me two things, the first being that you can’t sacrifice your happiness for anyone else’s, and the second being that you can’t be scared of change, you’re going to change throughout your four years of high school, whether you want to or not.”

Steve Orzech, a social studies teacher at VUHS, said, “I’ve had Jaymee as a student for three of her four years here. She has always been intelligent and quiet. But as her comfort and maturity have increased, I’ve seen a beautifully witty, charming and insightful young woman blossom in our midst.”

Following graduation from VUHS, Jaymee plans on studying video game design, hopefully at Champlain College. The faculty, staff and students of VUHS wish Jaymee the very best in the future.
