THIS FOUR-FOOT-TALL statue of a male with a lantern disappeared from a Route 125 property in Hancock last week. Anyone who knows its whereabouts is asked to contact Vermont State Police at 802-234-9933.

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police are looking into the disappearance of a four-foot-tall cement statue of an African American male holding a lantern, which was apparently stolen from a Hancock residence last week.

Trooper Randy Brouillard reports that sometime during the overnight hours of July 21-22, unknown persons entered the Route 125 property of Judith Olsen, 74, and removed the statue, which is valued at approximately $500. The statue is painted to depict the male dressed in baggy, red knickers and a white shirt open at the neck.

Anyone having any information on where the statue now is or who was involved in its disappearance is asked to contact the Vermont State Police at 802-234-9933.

In other recent activity, state police:

•  On July 26 at 6:30 a.m. responded to a report of a vehicle striking a utility pole on States Prison Hollow Road in Monkton. Cody Driscoll, 19, of Monkton told police that he was driving a 2005 Subaru Outback westbound on the road when an animal ran in front of him. In an attempt to avoid hitting the animal, Driscoll swerved and went off the travel portion of the roadway, drove in the ditch and struck a Green Mountain Power pole. The force of the impact broke the pole. Police report that Driscoll, who was wearing a seat belt, hit his head during the crash, but no medical attention was sought.

•  On July 27 at 12:30 p.m. responded to a two-vehicle crash on Bristol Road in Monkton at the intersection of Hardscrabble Road. The trooper reported that through her investigation she determined that a 2011 Jeep Patriot driven by Toni Forbes, 50, of Middlebury was traveling southbound on Bristol Road when a 2013 Nissan Rogue driven by Joanne Boutin, 55, of Monkton turned in front of the Jeep from Hardscrabble Road. The Jeep struck the Nissan, Senior Trooper Cari Crick reported, in the driver’s side door and front quarter panel.

Forbes and a 47-year-old female passenger in her car were transported to Fletcher Allen Health Care by the Bristol Rescue Squad; Forbes reported knee and ankle pain and the passenger reported chest pain. Boutin was treated on scene.

Both vehicles’ airbags deployed and all occupants involved were wearing their seatbelts.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact Vermont State Police in New Haven at 802-388-4919.

•  On July 27 received a vandalism complaint from the owner of property at Route 125 in Addison. The property owner reported that somebody had poked holes in her RV screen porch between July 6 and July 27. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact state police.
