MIDDLEURY — Middlebury police were called to the Greystone Motel to deal on Route 7 South on Nov. 29 to deal with a homeless patron who was refusing to leave. After checking with the John Graham Emergency Shelter, police said the woman was ultimately taken to the Rutland Regional Medical Center for screening.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Responded to a noise complaint at a Case Street residence on Nov. 27.

•  Helped get an overnight room for a homeless man found sleeping in the hallway of a Court Street apartment building on Nov. 27.

•  Cited Justin P. Cousino, 18, of New Haven for possession of marijuana, following an investigation at the Champlain Farms property off Court Street on Nov. 28.

•  Received a report on Nov. 28 that a ring belonging to a resident of the Lodge at Otter Creek had gone missing.

•  Investigated a report of a sick skunk in the Case Street area on Nov. 28. Police said the skunk had sprayed a person and a dog.

•  Responded to a report of a foster child creating a disturbance at a Case Street home on Nov. 29. Representatives of the Vermont Department of Children and Families took charge of the juvenile, according to police.

•  Dealt with two truancy issues on Nov. 30. One involved delivering a letter to the parent of a student who had been consistently missing from Middlebury Union Middle School. The other involved a student who had walked away from the Patricia A. Hannaford Career Center’s North campus off Exchange Street.

•  Confiscated, for safekeeping, a pellet gun from a vehicle in the visitors’ parking lot at Middlebury Union High School on Nov. 30.

•  Responded, with Middlebury fire officials, to a Foote Street residence in which a wood stove was funneling smoke throughout the home on Dec. 1.

•  Responded to a report of a panhandler in front of McDonald’s Restaurant on Route 7 South on Dec. 1.

•  Ticketed a man for driving with a suspended license on Route 7 South on Dec. 2. Police said they also warned the man for driving with too many passengers in his vehicle.

•  Received a report about a discourteous man who attended a book reading at the Vermont Book Shop on Main Street on Dec. 2. Police were told that as poems were being read, the man put on his earphones and played music so loud that it could be heard throughout the room. The man eventually took out a beer and opened it, whereupon he was asked to leave — allegedly uttering the words “I will get even with you” before complying — according to police.
