ADDISON COUNTY — A three-car accident on Route 30 in Cornwall last Friday sent two people to the hospital.

Vermont State Police responded to a reported crash at the intersection of Route 30 and Cider Mill Road on the afternoon of Aug. 12. Sgt. Jim Hogan reported that Alexandra Rooker, 21, of Fair Haven was driving a 2007 Chrysler Sebring northbound on Route 30 and James Broderick, 66, of Hubbardton was driving a 2006 Toyota Highlander southbound on Route 30, followed by Jacob Abbott, 29, of Orwell piloting a 2002 Subaru Legacy.

Trooper Hogan reported that Rooker turned left to go onto Cider Mill Road directly in front of Broderick’s Highlander, resulting in a head-on crash. Abbott’s Subaru then collided with the back of the Highlander.

Rooker told police that she did not see any vehicles approaching her prior to attempting the turn onto Cider Mill Road.

The Cornwall Volunteer Fire Department responded and provided traffic control and scene security and the Middlebury Volunteer Ambulance Association transported Broderick and his passenger to Porter Hospital. Broderick reportedly sustained a back injury, bruises, soreness and abrasions; and his passenger, Jessica Broderick, 27, of Hubbardton, sustained a knee injury, bruises and abrasions. Rooker reported lacerations, bruises and soreness.

All three drivers were wearing seat belts.

The two vehicles in the main crash reportedly had extensive front-end damage, the Highlander also sustained damage to its back end, and Abbott’s Subaru sustained damage to its front end, left side and hood.

After Norton declined to allow a consent search of his vehicle, Vergennes Police Chief George Merkel and his K9 responded and walked around the vehicle, and the K9 alerted on Norton’s vehicle. Policed obtained a search warrant, searched the car and Hanley reported that they found one pound of marijuana in a vacuum sealed clear pouch in the vehicle.

Police cited Norton with a felony count of possession of marijuana.
