• On Thursday, Rep. Steve Maier (D-Middlebury) announced that he would be withdrawing from the Nov. 2 general election ballot. His decision not to seek reelection leaves the Democratic party with seven days to choose another candidate.
• Democratic gubernatorial candidate Doug Racine called for a recount of primary election votes early this afternoon, after the Secretary of State's office announced that its preliminary results set Peter Shumlin ahead of Racine by 197 votes.
• Middlebury town officials announced a series of traffic changes for construction in the downtown area. The construction began today and will continue until Sept. 3.
