Crossing the lake

SINCE THE CHAMPLAIN Bridge closed last month, New York resident Mike Sweeney has been rowing a small boat across Lake Champlain to get to his part-time job at the Addison Independent and to get an occasional breakfast at the Bridge Restaurant. Officials announced on Monday that the bridge will be torn down and a free ferry service will be run near the site until a new bridge can be constructed.
