Betty S. Cyr
NEW HAVEN — Betty S. Cyr, 86, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.
Born Aug. 22, 1922, in Bristol, she was the daughter of Berley and Anna (Hallock) Sumner.
She married Donald R. Cyr and moved to New Haven, where they operated their farm and raised their children. Her family says she was a loving caring mother. She loved working in her garden, canning, word puzzles and her flowerbeds.
She is survived by five sons, Wayne D. Cyr and his wife Valerie of Hinesburg, Frederick C. Cyr and his wife Diana of Bowdoin, Maine, Maurice R. Cyr and his wife Margaret of Bristol, Rodney J. Cyr of New Haven, and Patrick D. Cyr and fiancée Jane Pidgeon of New Haven; one daughter, Marguerite A. Searle and fiancé Wayne Doane of Ripton; five brothers, Sonny, Tracy and Phillip Sumner of Bristol, Stanley Sumner of Fair Haven and Tex Sumner of Athol, Mass.; and a sister, Catherine Sibley of Burlington; five grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald R. Cyr, in 1995; a brother, Stuart Sumner; three sisters, Beatrice Downer, Barbara Manning and Marjorie Sumner; and a grandson.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Friday, Aug., 14, 2009, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Middlebury, with the Rev. William R. Beaudin, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery New Haven.

She was born in Bridport on Jan. 10, 1921, the daughter of Joseph and Marie (Faubert) Laframboise.
Her hobbies were gardening, mowing her lawn, canning meat and vegetables, baking, visiting and caring for her grandchildren, and helping her husband Lawrence with farm work until they retired. Her family says she had a very special companion, her cat Josie.
She is survived by her six children, Roger and Joanne Gevry of Addison, Rheal and Gail Gevry of Addison, Lee Gevry of Hinesburg, Bernard and Jennie Gevry of North Ferrisburgh, David Gevry of Addison, and Joyce and Joe Tarte of Addison; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Aline Lafountain of Weybridge, Marcelle Bolduc of New Haven and Noella Dubois of Addison; and several nieces, nephews, sisters- and brothers-in-law.
She was predeceased by her husband Lawrence in March of 2000; a grandson, Christopher Gevry; two brothers, Guy Laframboise and Lucien Laframboise; and two sisters, Claire Hallock and Pauline Shackett.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at St. Peter’s Church in Vergennes. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Vergennes.
